What are the side quests rewards? Anything worthwhile?
I just finished Deadly Premonition 1 and when I picked up the Nameless Flower for George and gave me the feature to fast travel, I pretty much didn't do much side quests after that save for a few that I couldn't avoid.

I'm in Episode 1 in DP2 and I see that you can ride an uber to fast travel. So are they worth doing if I'm just looking to finish the story in my first playthrough? Can I do them later when I finished the story?

too difficult your question
some mini-games or side quests can give amulets and other useful rewards.
but sometimes they just give you a coffee, or random materials.
I spend about 17 or 18 hours on the minigames and side quests...
I'll be honest.
I don't think it's worth doing, there are too many of them and some of them are extremely difficult or repetitive.
you can make some.
but don't waste too much time
for me the game did not meet my expectations.

You won't return to the open world when you finish the story, if that's what you are interested in. You need to replay a chapter from the main menu, but you will keep all progress and items that are not not tied to the story. I think the start of chapter 2 is the right time to indulge in side content. After Emma and Chuck were introduced. When you are done with everything that involves Melvin, you can cross over to chapter 3. When the dalmation gets introduced, stop pursuing the main quest all together until you have done everything you could ever want. The reason is, the game ends sooner than you may think. Including the opportunities to goof around. When you see the ending, there is a very high chance that won't turn the game back on to do side stuff.

From what I heard you get more things to interact with the world when you are done with Xavier and Tyrone. Have not seen it myself. If all that is even worth doing is the real question. Learning more about the characters maybe. Dying 100 times on purpose certainly not.

I thought it might be but you answered it well and confirmed my thoughts, just like the other answer I got.

I see, I'll just do a few that I feel like doing like that photography side mission I'm currently working on. Tbh, I just care to know what happens to the story cause I really liked the first game.
