Feedback: Sinew and Harvesting limit suggestions
I'm at a point where I need huge amounts of sinew for my Quilted and for literal farming boxes. And that means a TON of rats to hunt. Sadly, this feels mostly like waiting, far too much micromanagement of hunting tasks. Need a more reliable way to get it. Automated hunting somehow? Or a rat-attractor in the underground?

I am currently sitting on hundreds of various harvestable items that I do not need, at least not currently. Instead of often changing priority on the harvest boxes and trees, there should be a custom limit we can set on any materials. Collecting materials "up to x amount", same as production limits, would be ideal.

Also, outdoor rooms! Would be awesome if we could create a garden somehow. Perhaps some nice fences, and if we build planters and/or trees inside of them we gain a garden with some neat bonuses.

Micromanagement? dude, zoom all the way out, double click in a rat -> hunt.

I know all of you want this game to become basically a slideshow, but come on... please at least give your mages something to do, like hunting. If we keep up, in a few months everything will be so automated that you wil just see your mages in the screen idle 99% of the time, the game will lose the meaning completely.

Garden?? why? you already can make a room and put all your planters inside. You can decorate it with huge windows to look like a greenhouse. You can put many other things. If you want a garden just outside, just put your planters outside and you have a garden. As simple as that lol.

You are wrong, my friend.
And the amount of rat-hunting I have to do is crazy. I have to focus on it more than anything else in the game.
And I don't mean a rat-trap that just kills everything for me to pick up. I mean a way for rats to be marked for hunting so the mages DO get something to do.
Why a garden? Because they're nice.

There's nothing wrong with Nemesis' post. In fact, it's even one of the nicer ones out there. Anyway, having rats be auto-hunt is a bad idea. Rats marked for harvest will not be available for your wolfkin to eat.
As Nemesis already pointed out; you can zoom out, double-click a rat to select every single rat on your screen, click hunt, then click 5 so your mages prioritize this task. I get a 2nd fire mage early on so I have 2 mages that can split the hunting and cooking between them. Depending on secundary skill they either harvest or research in their spare time. One works during day and may teach, the other at night and is a big help killing croa as well.

I have restarted many times in an effort to prepare better for the future. Such as hunting lots of rats from day 1. I haven't even completed the game as far as it goes yet, even though I have 300 hours spent *shrug*

I do agree the storage system can be improved, as do many players with us. But for now we will have to make do with what we have. Devs are working on improvements and also harvest quilts are coming so all our magic lives will get easier!

EtA: looks like they just came, check events and announcements!

Just learn how to play. You will realize that hunting rats is the least of your problems.

actually i think I would find that amusing if the devs make up a consumable rat trap that breaks after a certain amount of time or needs a recharge. you can set the trap in the spots where rats spawn and it will either drop carcasses next to it or if you plant the refining beast next to it, it would automatically eat the carcass.

The game sure could use a literal rat farm.

Some games, I'm swimming in rats. This one, seems almost none spawn. Maybe it's RNG, maybe there's a trick to get more, maybe my wolves are extra hungry this time around.

I would be fine if there was there was a late game spawner that allows me to hunt more of both because i stopped playing because to advanced i need more brains and eyes and grinding that is no fun.

Or if it was a reaction to the world. Leave lots of rice (or corpses, etc. whatever dire rats eat) easily accessible outside for them to eat, maybe with shrubbery (such as wyrmweed) to nest and hide in = lots of rats. Wall it away in your garden - few rats.

The specific mechanics matter less, but having more influence on it would help.

The midden jelly cube thing can make sinew out of carcasses, which I've found very helpful.

I really agree with this, my biggest problem right now is hunting Croa. I want more of them.

I beg to differ. It's a braindead and tedious mechanic that adds nothing to the gameplay. Anyone saying they enjoy this aspect is lying to themselves.

Not to mention that even if you were to hunt every rat there is it simply aren't enough when your school grows big enough.

I agree but braindead and tedious is exactly how some people like it. After you have done it 3000 times it tends to lose it's appeal to most of us... not everyone though.

I just wanted a little tesla zapper to kill rats off. If certain people want to do it 50000 times then they can just not build them but as usual that sort just want to spread the misery they thrive on. Like mold.

You can't win against that sort so don't bother trying. It's the devs that need to see the message and I couldn't care less what those others post. I only get to see some of their posts in quotes in others posts because they are blocked. Unhelpful and generally just quarrelsome folk who are quite simply irrelevant.

I'd love to see a mechanic that spawns more rats. Maybe a rat queen refining beast that spawns more rats on order for your mages to hunt, or just setting up a habitat for them with food and bushes as was suggested above. It's not about automating hunting so much as having access to enough rats to get the materials needed to progress. But then again, remembering to send a hunter out every day and managing resources is part of the challenge.

Ok, so basically not a single gameplay mechanic adds anything to the game. Thanks for the clarification. Im not surprised the game is more and more dull in every update... and if you consider hunting rats "tedious" in mass, dude, just stop playing right now... because thats one of the less tedious tasks to do. Seriously.
