Pro Tip: If the "fog" is stressing you out
You can adjust the setting to make it less overbearing! I'm new to the genre, and found that I wanted it to go a bit slower, and not be as intense at first. You can easily adjust the setting before starting your school, and it's made things so much less stressful for me.

As I learn more about the game, and become better, I'm going to restore it back to default! Super fun game!

Yeah this is what difficulty setting for. I find relentless kinda stressful for my greedy playthroughs, so I prefer standard. It's not MGR where you have to complete highest difficulty possible to unlock "the real difficulty" mode. :D

Same with RimWorld and similar base-builders. You just have to understand what playthrough you're aiming for.

Difficulty settings in Mind Over Matter are the best I've seen, btw. The most flexible, I would say.

What's the big deal with the fog? You know you can push it back for free right?

If you don't have a big supply of wood, just let it get closer to the school until it doesn't cost anything to repel.

I didn't know this, but I think the futher pushed back the more rare materials exist? Not sure yet.

I mainly said this because a lot of negative reviews stated they were very stressed over the fog coming through.

You can also adjust all difficulty settings in an ongoing game, if you decide that your initial settings aren't right for you.

This is huge! I didn't know this.
Unless you're playing on relentless, as long as you're doing one ritual a day with 3 people then the fog pushes back further than it advances each day. How can you think that's overbearing?

That is correct. But once you research the planters for things like gutberry / sunshadow tree / smokereed / iceflower (and it's a good idea to research these early, as well as the lavalina sty) then you will hardly need to worry about the fog anymore. And this can be done fairly early and quickly if you start with a lightning mage and build the room that improves research speed.

Remember in an emergency you can give move orders on resources on the ground, and toggle your mages to maximum priority hauling to bring the resources close to your school and away from the fog and rain (just get them in storage asap to avoid gremlins).

Well, as the game progresses, you'll need many more types of planters - almost all of them. That's why researching planters is almost one of the most important technologies (not that the others aren't important, but planters are one of the main factors that help you get your feet on the ground)

Sadly, some of the reviews that are negative state that. I couldn't reply to them, but I'm wishing they knew they could adjust various features.

This. Half the Negative reviews are from morons who apparently couldn't be bother to look at the buttons in the Escape screen.
But then again they're mostly the same persons who also complain about `lack of tutorials`, when there is an entire underground room that holds The Codex.... :steamsad:

Some simply don't have the Mind to grasp any Magic whatsoever, unless it happens to be spoon fed.

Sadly, and this is me sounding like a boomer, but younger generations have no concept of not being spoon fed. I blame snack-sized-content shorts like TikTok for ruining their attention span. I see it in the workforce as a software developer. Our interns cannot focus at all, nor do they want to do the work of asking questions/researching. It absolutely applies to gaming that isn't linear/spoon-fed to them too.

Rant over.

Makes no difference, every generation moans about the one before and after with the exact same things.

Pro-tip number 2: wait for the fog to get super close before repelling it. It's cheaper that way.
