Staff retention
Played this a few months ago when it first came out and the one thing that kinda irked me is developing and curating staff to end up being forced(in a way) to retire them? I can kind of understand the reasoning behind it, it being more realistic and mitigates an enormous school/staff for performance reasons.

Perhaps I am mistaken but is this still a thing?

yea.. as you advance and get more skilled/gifted students, equip higher level wands..

they just out-pass your starting teachers. - i started with an earth 3? - vivified? was great tank.. (its extra HP gave more room despite earth armor) - but eventually - i got a wolf that ended up with like a 5 earth (2 wand.. just had a thing that when completed that gave her another level earth. random chance..

she became my main tank. - way lower HP, but WAY faster and more absorb for the spells armor. made her way more useful/powerful, (espicably as she was like 1st or 2nd to act) i retied my old tank for the extra scrolls,, and just moved on..

it be nice to have a "main char" one could make.. but i guess the ghost is meant to fill that spot..

basically - eventually you will train students who far surpass their teachers.. its up to you to retire them and replace with some student they trained.

seems fitting really.

the main reason being - as the different skills increase - they do thing faster..

so having someone with 2/3 ect in several different stills on your staff is better than your starting 3 and like 1 maybe 2 in another one or 2.

They are changing the mechanics. Staff can now level up. There are lots of other changes. See the current prerelease branch. IMHO the changes greatly improve the gameplay.

I posted my Closed Beta game plays on my YouTube channel. (I did live streams of it as well since I've been working with the Devs on the Twitch Integration).

The Mages get a new "progression" or career from Students to Apprentices (optional) to Staff/Teacher. Staff members can upgrade their Wand Tier levels. They will also level up (skills and character) with wand upgrades. Additionally, they'll be able to get bonus perks from relics (that are previously medallions earned only from trials completion).

Students who follow the Apprentice path can get duel magic spell specialization. This means you can use spells from another wand type (that's not your main wand) during combat.

It's very cool!

My latest episode gives you a better idea of the changes:
https://youtu.be/3r_YR9Y3kfc?si=K_VRCKT_UjM-qHWZ

The previous episodes showcases more earlier iterations of the closed beta and has been changed a bit during testing.

There's a new prerelease testing that is public, so you guys can join discord to learn more about it. Or change your "beta" branch tab to "prerelease".

I believe our options of changed with the update today, might wanna check out the update post for the full scoop. Havent played it yet, just read the patch notes but it seems we can keep students around longer or permanately to develop their skills further. Been waiting for a big update to play again.

Definitely will be able to keep them around longer if you find the ideal paperdoll. Since the relics can now be changed out.

Though the Quirks will give you reasons to replace somebody though and retire others that had bad quirks
