I mean, i dont think there is any other way, every single player will need to do this unless he is willing to explore the underground every frikkin time he needs stone (that is, btw, ridiculous). The game becomes extremely tedious doing this.
But keep in mind, to be able to build the lavaline sky probably you will still need iron and stone, so you are going to need to explore the underschool for those resources. But once you build it, you can forget forever about exploring the underground for stone or iron.
Sadly the devs keep making this game worst in every update, removing and downgrading many mechanics and its not as good as it was one year ago. Time ago stone will respawn in the surface over time when you propel the fog, now it doesnt.
