Does overdoing luxury give a benefit?
Wondering if I slap paintings, carvings, and other luxury items in rooms well in excess of whats necessary for the room requirements will it give extra conviction? and if so anyone know how much?

it does give you some buffer in case something breaks during some crisis and you dont want to loose the room type until its repaired (like you probably dont want to loose all your relic buffs as soon as a little ghost croa eats a single rug or a torch snuffer blows out a candelabra in your archive)
but beyond that, I didnt see any benefit so far

Some of the mages can develop preferences for certain types of luxury when they learn/eat/sleep/recreate. In those rooms it is also helpful to just stack all types of luxury so that you don't have to constantly worry about a given room meeting the requirements. However, this probably isn't practical until you have a painter.

actually I just got a relevant scar effect, 'Hates the mundane'
Classrooms need to have at least 50 luxury otherwise this student wont be happy

If you do over 50 luxary i think it increases chances of randomly getting "hates mundane" type of perks, just like if 2 guys eat together they may get "prefers eating with "charname".

So if you go over the top dinning room or bedroom they just gona prefer luxurious bedrooms or dinning rooms and become sad if forced to eat\sleep in non luxurious places

Typicaly its a negative, cince it does not give you any dirrect value, but drops 25 points if they participate in room without such thing, and a small buff if did. But i just spam carpets and candles everywhere so its not a problem.

yea, from all the scar effects I have seen so far this seems to be the least negative one, or rather the easiest one to accommodate for
