Room creation issue
I tried to create two rooms at the beginning of the game. They are identical with walls and a roof but only the room on the left forms. The other will not create a back wall and finish the room. Can someone explain how this works? The codex doesn't explain how to create a general room.

You likely have a gap, however small, to the outside somewhere in the construction. Back walls will only form when a room is fully enclosed. If you can't figure out where your gap is, post a screenshot of the room here and we'll be able to point it out to you.

100% no gaps. Even built a double wall in case the roof wasn’t connecting. I had to build half a new floor to finally get a back wall and now there is a ridiculous half a floor sticking out in that room. The room creation mechanic needs to explain WHY a room isn’t being created
Did you have a roof on it? if they aren't connected a certain way, they don't count as a room. Had this issue a few times, rebuilding the roof fixed it.
Can you show us what it looks like? I'm sure some of us might spot the problem at first glance.

From your description I would guess that the roof is connected diagonally to the top of your wall, which does create a gap. If that's the case you can fix it by adding a bit to the top of the wall until it really connects.

My guess is it's a roof not connected on either the left or right side. It is obvious when that's the problem, but probably not to a new player. That's why I also asked him to share an screenshot if he couldn't figure it out. For whatever reason he choose not to post one though.

I had exactly the same problem today and the cause was me trying to build a roof with an overhang. And it was an easy fix actually.

Maybe OP found the problem themselves already.
