How do i use tier 2 wands to summon students?

i crafted tier 2 wands. but when i select the student summoning ritual they only let me choose tier 1 ones

You can't summon tier 2 anymore. You summon tier 1, then upgrade their wand to tier 2 once you unlock the underschool room for it.

The game itself gives you a head's up of what you need to do once you get your first tier 2 wand, over in the upper left notification area.
