faster stais for lategame
Hey,
since the academy tends to get bigger and bigger later on, I would like to see a faster option (an evelator maybe?) hidden in the later parts of the research tree. This would help at least a little with the problem of time wasted because of to big distances.

Speaking about that, we have a mages academy, what about a different floor type later on, that's able to move itself and therefore accelerate the movement speed indoors?

Elevator would solve nothing. Unless is a teleporter elvator lol. I agree that time runs out incredibly fast and reached a point mages waste more time walking than doing anything (and sometimes they dont even do a thing cuz by the time they reach their destination they already need to do something else...) but i guess thats the whole point of the game. Unless the devs add teleports (that will be actually incredibly useful) adding any other way of access points like elevators will be pointless and not necessary. Also, im pretty sure your mages will waste the same exact time climbing a ladder than taking an elevator... so.

The game has an odd focus of wanting to be both a school, hence needing lots of students, and wanting to be a small colony manager, aka needing a few elite pawns. In my opinion, it hasn't found this balance. Schools have to made larger to accommodate more students, but the larger you make a school, the longer it takes to get around. Having only a small 'base' kind of works, but that's more a class, not a school.

From the looks of things so far, you can only summon up to 13 students. I have an 8 student dormitory and that already takes up a heap of space. Combine that with a mess hall, a large intermediate class room, and all the staff rooms, and my school is already starting to take a whole hour just to go from the top to the bottom. Work definitely needs to go into the logistics, and the devs need to make up their minds as to what they want this game to be. Having all the room requirments (especially lofted) that DEMAND a lot of space be taken up just makes things needlessly more complicated for what amounts to a very small payoff.

@n3mes1s ladders may be a little faster then stairs (would have to check that, since my main way up and down is a stairs). but yes, if they add an evelator, it would need to be faster than stairs in order to be useful.
I would ofc also accept some kind of teleporter device, that allows them to instantly move between them. Even if it's so expensive that you don't spam them all along once you unlocked the tech, it would have the potential of really smoothing up the logistics.

My ideas of an elevator and a floor upgrade that makes the students/staff walk faster would most likely soften the issuses. Still I agree with both of you, that the devs should also think about a more long time solution for logistics in bigger academies.

Maybe take a look at the Common Hall (or whatever it's called), which merges all your student living-space needs into one room (beds, dining, recreation), and with a clever layout you can keep it fairly compact. It's in the Room Types menu under Rec Rooms, IIRC.

Yeah... There's no way I'm building an ELEVATED one of those in the early/mid game.

It also doesn't solve the problem. With more students, you need more staff, and staff need their own rooms too. Simply put, the game doesn't support large schools. You can accomplish just as much with minimal staff and four students as you can a full academy, and I think that's a real problem.

That one is actually not too hard, I got a common room for 6 students up not long after I unlocked pillar supports. Pillars are quite nifty in that they let you create an elevated room at the top of the school instead of having all the elevated rooms at the edges of the school building.

Here's how I made mine, it's only lacking the larger windows to qualify as a house common (the upgraded version):

And in regards to limited rooms for staff, I suggest splitting ones staff between day and night shifts. Just make sure beds and stuff have auto-assign turned off, assigned to any, and allow all staff. That way you get twice the staff comparatively to the number of rooms required. Also, since they do fine with just 6 hours of sleep you can technically split the day up into 4 shifts, making the room to staff requirements as low as 1:4, but I haven't felt a need to go that far myself.

Erm, not even close. You can play with minimal staff (4) but you are not going to acomplish much. Everything is going to be even slower than it is, and you are going to need 10x times to do anything. Im sure in time you are goin to get tired of how slow things are going.
