Death
It seems like lifespans have been removed and staffs no longer die. So I guess the only way to have graveyards for blooms is to summon a student just to have it suicide in battle? I really liked the lifespan ideas and for those that don't want it, you can just turn it on or off. And maybe also have some elixirs of life to extend lifespans for staffs you really like...

I may have, locked a student in a room until snapped and died :kotomiclannad:

Hopefully more means to come by hallowlilies will be added, I'm fairly certain I got some from battles too.

I like the elixir idea, so I would not have to let my most gifted&well rounded staff members go in case the lifespan does get added back

I'm not sure how I'd feel about lifespans for the staff... there are some upsides, but also some downsides. I agree the lack of graves is an issue, and not wanting to suicide students. I was thinking they could add graves to fog areas occasionally - that you have to fight angry specters to reclaim.

Yup, i hope this improves in the future. Some adanced recipes require smokepearls, and as you say, unless you are willing to sacrifice studens all the time, there is no other way to get them in easy way. Mining smoke cristals is a chore (not only you need to hope one spawns but also that it actually gives you a smokepearl) and the lava dude is ok but what if you dont want to explore all the way?. More options would be nice.
Honestly I'm glad they did away with that. I'm a new player but from what I've seen right now, if this was a thing it would really mess with the value of high level/investment of training your students before hiring them. Because why invest in a high level staff if they'll just expire eventually anyway outside of deaths during battles?

I don't know, I can see why they removed them but at the same time, new, so maybe I'm missing something..

It's not hard to send students who have 'impossible' or 'worthless' medallions into the underschool to 'scout' rooms.

Eh, they get free room and board, free education, a free wand and otherwise do very little (haul, destroy, tend, charge, clean, and caretake... and only that last one is student only).

The school is supposed to grind out students anyway =P And if a few get lost, the game points out that magic is supposed to be dangerous.

I get the feeling that the original design anticipated far more death and far less investment in staff - that they would be replaceable from constant new students. That's really not how it goes though.

One 4 skull fog crystal battle literally gave me 150 smokepearls. I'm hopeful same amount of lillies might be randomized reward, ending the need to student sacrifices

(this actually makes me think alignment effect would be interesting update somewhere in the future, currently your actions don't really have any effect and all your mages are "good". Ignorant, but good :D "oh just gimme good food, dancing and a nice bed and I don't really bother thinking if students are sacrificed here or not!". How about blood mage / sun mage traits based on your actions ö.ö)

Hallowlillies, not smoke pearls. Hallowlillies only grow on graves.

i love that they don't have lifespans. I have students breaking and running into the fog... exactly when i cant rescue them all the freaking time. I think you didn't play deep enough into the game to start getting like... the endless murderfest of the fog. it was like... every student that i wanted to promote to a teacher killed themselves... it's like if you can't get them promoted like 10 days after they get their star. they generally freak out and run away cause life is meaningless... you have to umlock the badges on time... it's VERY difficult i love it.

The higher level grave gives you a spirit that brings smokepearls from the fog

Honestly this actually sounds like an awesome update as long as it doesn't lock you out of anything! I feel like it could easily lead to people attempting to go different "routes" or "playthroughs" to switch up their style and keep stuff from getting boring!

Yes def would need to be more like Mass Effects Renegade / Paragon type of scale, with neither being inherently bad or good but a different ways of playing the game. Think of unlocking a special type of room and items to build, or a special type of gifted student, or even a separate hallway to explore in the Underschool depending if you get enough of either traits :)

...Maybe even the whole outlook of the school changing ^^ that would be so neat
