for relaxed maybe 4 blocks of recreation. 2 start day 2 end day for me with 9 staff 3 students and bitter stir fry as food. Keeps em at around 50-70% conviction

1. After sleep, make sure to add leisure time to minimize walking
2. after leisure add 1 eating time (you only need 1 eating time for the whole day, since they just jump from 0 to full when they eat something (it will say they are "starving" but the negative effects dont change conviction hard enough, by the time they eat its still in green area
3. then just work
4. add 1 more leisure time at the end, so everyone moves very close to the beds and dont loose time wakling there from their work thats far away

What about class time?

only students are the ones to worry here, as staff can be set to class and do normal tasks if classes are already going on.
generally you'll want to make a custom group of students that are fully trained, and give them a "task" full schedule instead of class full schedule.

I like to put a leisure right before sleeping. This works as a kind of "end of day" alarm. It gets them all moving to the recreation room so they can get into bed quicker after that hour is up.

So im assuming most people aim for building something like a common room where rec and sleeping is done in the same area ?

Not necessarily. The goal is more to pull in people who may not be close to the living areas of the school, especially those that have gone out far along the map to harvest or what-have-you. Once you have pushed the fog out far enough, walk times can be quite substantial and cut into sleep hours if you don't get them to head back home beforehand.

I also wonder if it worth the effort to stagger everyone's schedules (like in ONI) to utilise small bedrooms / dining rooms. I think it is possible to create 3-4 shifts where people won't overlap with their eating / sleeping.

I've certainly found staggered schedules helpful for making sure there is always someone available to deal with emergencies. Some students want to learn/eat/dance alone, so a scheduled for that is helpful (I wish I could name scheduled, and copy-paste them...).

Avoid single blocks.

On one of my runs, I staggered the schedule. Especially for Nature mages to harvest at night for certain crops. I think it worked out well, except I had to keep checking to see which people were awake when I had to deal with something. Now I just have everyone sleep during the day and work at night.

You can't really use single time blocks because walking between activities can take up a block all by itself (feel like we really need faster travel). The trouble is, with an extra long meal/sleep time, they will always default to doing tasks after that activity is finished (e.g. if you tell people to sleep in till 8 o'clock, but they wake up at 7, then they'll spend 7 till 8 doing tasks - same if they finish eating early).

Really, I would like them to default to the next activity on the schedule - if I've set recreation after meal time and they finish eating earlier than what I've set, then it's better they get in some extra recreation rather than take a trip down to the garden only to turn around half way and walk back towards the common room. Better still would be if we could set a 1st and 2nd preference for each time block.

Excellent comment - devs please note.
