Current word from the devs regarding controller support that I could find (posted on Discord on 19 Sep 2024):

Would love to get to controller support. To do it well, it's significant UX work so first order is finishing the major bits of the game and getting them in a state we all like. So it's a combo of needing the time and not having a moving target on the UX.

From this, if we get controller support at all, it will likely be after the Endgame update, possibly post-release.

New gamers that are not used to play with mouse and keyboard will always ask for controller support aka gamepad. It is the worst controller method that there is, but they will ask for it anyways because they dont know anything else unfortunately. We are in the year 2025 and the excuse of "i just want to play away from my pc" doesnt exist anymore since, wireless mouses and keyboards are completely common these days. So, i dont get it why anyone would like to play with a gamepad. Its completely dumb. Its horrible. And yup i have also 3 videoconsoles besides the pc and i almost dont touch em. Gamepad is ok when some friends come to play but for any other circunstance... keyb and mouse always.

No controller support, same goes with OnI, so you can go and keep playing platformers. No good reason for console ports, luckily

or you know health related trouble like wrist carpian thinguy not sure of the name in english , ligament in forearm , messed up elbow , messed up shoulder .... you know stuff happen right ? so ya i'm all for controller support it give a break from time to time , that way no need to switch game to rest a bit , beside more option is always good and would bring some sale as indicated by the comment so it's a win for everyone .

also euh do you really play action game or fighting game with mouse ? i mean fps game is a no brainer but some style are just way better with a gamepad

That is a specific problem and they are not going to add controller support just for a very little minority. Its stupid. Sorry for you, but its how it is.

NOTHING is better with gamepad. That is an urban legend, as i said, new gamers have larned in the bad way. I said it before, i have a pc and three videocnosoles. I almost never touch em, it doesnt matter if i play an action game or strategy or whatever. I compare the ergonomy and precision of keyb+mouse with a gamepad and i laugh. So much.

99% that it wont happen. These games (like OnI) are for PC gamers, so no reason for any controller support. I have controller for platformers, but keyboard and mouse the more natural way to work or play on PC
