Does the game has a storyline with an ending?
Or is it just "survive for as long as you can" sort of game?

I was about to ask the same thing. After only three hours I started wondering: Is all I do keep the fog away for as long as possible, or is there something else?

At the moment.... it seems like it. There is even a High Score (calle MAGIC score) in the game.

It would be a shame, if its all that will be.

no way man, it's a turn based combat system after you get the underschol ritual.
The fights can be very hard after a while and you just explore further so i assume it will end because you basically explore the terrain and get materials.
The research is tied to exploration as well so you can't just survive, you have to progress the school system as well.
Some people might hate the heavy emphasis on turn based combat and the fact you need to rotate students. If you keep them too long they become angry, graduate or recruit them:)
After about 4 hours you start unlocking and using bots called quilts that take over hauling and cleaning, later you get ones that chop and mine.

That wasn't what I asked. I love turn-based games and base building and that's why it got my interest. But I don't really like playing games mindlessly without any real endgoal. Hence why I asked if the game had an story with an ending or if it's just a "survive until you tire your until the darkness gets everything".

It's not a Klei game, but developed under Klei guidance. Both my favourite Klei games were without ending at the time they enter early access and get it later in development. I suggest we have the same story here.

Well, there is a definite end goal - explore the entire underschool and banish the fog from the entire map. More of your central mana stone lights up as you banish more fog, so presumably there is an end point where you have banished all the fog and lit up the entire crystal. Likely there is some finite end to the underschool exploration as well, though I'm less certain of that.
