Thank you for sharing your feedback and expressing your concerns. I apologize for any distress or discomfort caused by the lack of a trigger warning in our game. We understand how important it is to provide appropriate warnings to ensure a positive gaming experience for all players, and have gotten a few people reporting in about this topic on the forums and reviews.
While we strive to create an immersive and engaging game, we acknowledge the need for clearer content warnings, including animal-related themes. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we will take your feedback into account for future updates and releases and possibly get a tag onto the game as well. I will even mention this for our console ports.
Thank you for your understanding and for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. I apologize for any harm it may have done and hope you still could enjoy other parts of the game. Have a wonderful Friday and an even better weekend. :)
Cheers,
Josh
Sure, cutting out triggering content can be beneficial to a relatively minor portion of players, but heartbreak and trauma can also be vital elements of a story's narrative, or perhaps more commonly have sort of a "shock value".
Seeing as I have PTSD, I would say I have more than a basic understanding of triggers.
They suck so bad.
But if I were to put myself in another players shoes, or imagine what I would feel and think if I were the developer, I realize that censoring a game for my sake isn't exactly fair.
The game is tagged as psychological horror already, by the way, which is a clear indication that it will have sections that are... Unpleasant, to say the least.
But yeah if there was an option or something, but it was left a bit ambiguous to not spoil the game, then that'd probably be an overall positive change.
"Try to think of it from the perspective of others for a second" and "just because you CAN handle it doesn't mean balabala" seems contradictory. Sure, I agree that sequence was probably traumatizing or triggering, but a content warning would really ruin the gaming experience for many people, if not "everyone". I do not think it is a good idea to add such a SPECIFIC trigger warning. Not much people have a trigger of a pet's death comparing to abusive parenting.
I understand you suffered because of the absent of the trigger warning you wanted, and I am so sorry to hear that. I myself have a dog named Mia, and I named the pet in the game "Mia". My heartbroken experience is definitely no match yours, but I promise you: I really understand. I empathize you.
However, I believe most people could tell this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up event was going to happen considering the pet was never colored and was glitching all the time.
What I mean is that the game is marketed as horror and if it made you feel visceral about it, then it works. On the other hand I can understand that you may not wanted to be exposed to that feeling or material. Perhaps some generic, non-spoiler warning about possible harm of (non-existing) animals and/or cartoon characters should be there. But honestly, it is a horror game. A warning of "disturbing content" should be enough.
But cutting that scene? No.
It is absolutely crucial for the game. Animal abuse is indeed horrible and it is presented as exactly that in the game.
Also I think you had an effeminate dude as your pfp? And most people who play games are male. The odds were stacked against you.
Just let it go at this point. You were warned about disturbing content. You were disturbed. There's nothing more to say.
I can it may cause great stress to a few people but this scene is crucial to the game.
A warning about animal death would be spoilers for all the rest. As you said, what may be very disturbing or cause panic attacks to one person may be tame for another.
And the game can't have a huge list of every disturbing thing in it.
I don't say that to troll or mock you, but I think you should stay away from horror games with such conditions. Or, when you see a cute animal in a horror movie, you should perhaps turn it off. Animals in horror movie are treated as horribly as people in horror movies.
Again, this is not mocking.
