Hello KittyCatSteve, developer here!

Thank you for sharing your feedback and expressing your concerns. I apologize for any distress or discomfort caused by the lack of a trigger warning in our game. We understand how important it is to provide appropriate warnings to ensure a positive gaming experience for all players, and have gotten a few people reporting in about this topic on the forums and reviews.

While we strive to create an immersive and engaging game, we acknowledge the need for clearer content warnings, including animal-related themes. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we will take your feedback into account for future updates and releases and possibly get a tag onto the game as well. I will even mention this for our console ports.

Thank you for your understanding and for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. I apologize for any harm it may have done and hope you still could enjoy other parts of the game. Have a wonderful Friday and an even better weekend. :)

Cheers,
Josh

Idk, I feel like content warnings would be a big spoiler. The friend telling you to kill your other friend plays too big a part in the story to just censor it because you can't handle it. What would be the alternative? Just making it poof? It wouldn't have the same impact.

Bruh dont play horror games then if you cant handle it.

I think we have to consider what the trade off(s) would be.

Sure, cutting out triggering content can be beneficial to a relatively minor portion of players, but heartbreak and trauma can also be vital elements of a story's narrative, or perhaps more commonly have sort of a "shock value".

Seeing as I have PTSD, I would say I have more than a basic understanding of triggers.

They suck so bad.

But if I were to put myself in another players shoes, or imagine what I would feel and think if I were the developer, I realize that censoring a game for my sake isn't exactly fair.
The comment box broke so I couldn't type any further, but yeah.

The game is tagged as psychological horror already, by the way, which is a clear indication that it will have sections that are... Unpleasant, to say the least.

But yeah if there was an option or something, but it was left a bit ambiguous to not spoil the game, then that'd probably be an overall positive change.

To be fair, just because you CAN handle it doesn't mean that it's okay to expose an unknown amount of players to a possible emotional trigger like this one. Animal death is a big deal in media. There's a reason websites like doesthedogdie.com exist.

Try to think of it from the perspective of others for a second. You're lucky that you aren't triggered by things like this, but there are many who are.

"Try to think of it from the perspective of others for a second" and "just because you CAN handle it doesn't mean balabala" seems contradictory. Sure, I agree that sequence was probably traumatizing or triggering, but a content warning would really ruin the gaming experience for many people, if not "everyone". I do not think it is a good idea to add such a SPECIFIC trigger warning. Not much people have a trigger of a pet's death comparing to abusive parenting.

I understand you suffered because of the absent of the trigger warning you wanted, and I am so sorry to hear that. I myself have a dog named Mia, and I named the pet in the game "Mia". My heartbroken experience is definitely no match yours, but I promise you: I really understand. I empathize you.

However, I believe most people could tell this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up event was going to happen considering the pet was never colored and was glitching all the time.

Well this thread needs to be tagged as a spoiler because now I found out about part of the game I haven't reached yet.

me too I was very upset, I came here for a guide and scrolling past i was all of a sudden spoiled for the late-game. I expected the dog to die (like, say, can your pet) but that is a moment that (due to fear unease) i would have enjoyed. I get the importance of trigger warnings (I have animal trauma myself, my buddy was named after a dead pet who died due to my parents living situation when I was a child) but I was expecting discomfort from a horror game. this is bs.

Unfortunate and uncomfortable as this may be to you... making you uncomfortable and exposing you to that horror is a crucial part of the game.
What I mean is that the game is marketed as horror and if it made you feel visceral about it, then it works. On the other hand I can understand that you may not wanted to be exposed to that feeling or material. Perhaps some generic, non-spoiler warning about possible harm of (non-existing) animals and/or cartoon characters should be there. But honestly, it is a horror game. A warning of "disturbing content" should be enough.

But cutting that scene? No.
It is absolutely crucial for the game. Animal abuse is indeed horrible and it is presented as exactly that in the game.

Also I think you had an effeminate dude as your pfp? And most people who play games are male. The odds were stacked against you.

Just let it go at this point. You were warned about disturbing content. You were disturbed. There's nothing more to say.

2. I was diagnosed with PTSD, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and OSDD by a psychiatrist, so yes, I have many mental issues, and I know what the word "trigger" means. It's kind of weird that you assumed I was just using it as a buzzword? Why are you that jaded? Too many internet fights I guess.

4. "Disturbing content" is not enough of a warning because that could mean literally anything from body horror to sexual assault to animal death to child abuse, etc. What is "disturbing" to one person may be totally tame to others (e.g., animal death is nothing for all of you, but it caused me to have a panic attack. If it were blunt force trauma to the head, then that might trigger someone else, but it wouldn't trigger me).

I can it may cause great stress to a few people but this scene is crucial to the game.
A warning about animal death would be spoilers for all the rest. As you said, what may be very disturbing or cause panic attacks to one person may be tame for another.
And the game can't have a huge list of every disturbing thing in it.

I don't say that to troll or mock you, but I think you should stay away from horror games with such conditions. Or, when you see a cute animal in a horror movie, you should perhaps turn it off. Animals in horror movie are treated as horribly as people in horror movies.
Again, this is not mocking.
