Can I play this with only 3-5 friends for a total of 4-6 players or do we have to pay with randoms? Does the game scale for this?

you will liekly be playing with randoms as it not peer to peer game but there servers. but it is squad based so you can seemingly squad up, but you will be playing with randoms if you don't like it don't get it.

Also curious how this will work. My assumption is, we will end up needing 16 players at first. Maybe down the road they might have smaller squad missions? Or AI to join.

I also think 16 players is way too many. Id rather have smaller groups of 5 - 8 ppl.

The Finals has 4 squad of 3 so... and its only PVP, for a PVE game this Starship Troopers: Extermination for 4 squad of 4 is kinda small and it will work out in the end..

I mean, my experiences playing with randoms has been almost entirely negative... And I kinda just want to play with my friends... if 5 or 6 of us are on then 1-2 are getting stranded... so yea, valid complaints.

don't complain about the sever number, not everyone will be happy for their choices, after all if you appease every one then you will appease no one. so live with the fact they got a 16 players, you can squad up with your friends. if you want to play a game with only your friends an not with randoms, go create your own sever on squad, play a Co-op game with a limited number or people. there is no point in complaining about the fact that it 16 players. as the developers have already made that decision.

its a war game... ur more than capable of going off with ur squad of 4 to do something like any other coop game. ppl act like they never went outside and went to school or got a job and had to deal with ppl they werent the best of friends with.... got a long life ahead of u ppl. just enjoy the chaos and if someone rubs u wrong way...dont rez them or mute them. simple solutions to the basic issues.

for me, more ppl = more chaos and more chaos = more fun and random stuff

if ur 5 or 6 friends, not really alot of choices. most games are 2-4 now adays. even if u did this game with just ur friends, u wouldnt have enough to really spread out and would just be a small group doing a single objective. as it would not be realistic probably to send out 2 ppl by themselves to do an objective
