After playing 1462 hrs in this game Im done.
Every game I play in Ark its just continuous night. It starts dark, it has darkness in the middle and it ends dark. I started two different games this morning and as soon as I saw that they began in darkness I just lost all taste for the game.

That's a bit of a sour reaction, isn't it?

After playing 2200+ hrs I'm not done. The darkness isn't that bad, in fact I've only had one night time battle but that was because of the mutator. The night time in other battles pass fairly quickly to be honest.

I love the contrast of night and day now. The sunsets, the stars. And I go out of my way to find battles with thunderstorms and sandstorms.. love it.

I think it's sad, the Devs go out of their way to add atmosphere into their game, something that is missing in most games these days and peeps don't like it. My first game experience with Atmosphere and weather was Morrowind. I have been looking for that level of weather effects and atmosphere ever since. Now we have it, I find myself looking at the stars, clouds, rain, wind, sandstorms and wondering if the bugs do the same. Do they chill out ?.
i think the environmental changes are a good addition. i understand why some people don't like the night but the storms are very unique to add to the situation.

destiny has this same effect on their snow planet with random squalls hammering visibility, but that is for a shorter duration.

A lot of the people playing are old and have bad eyesight it's why they hate the modifiers that affect vision so much. It's also ironic because I've seen many a time where people would complain about modern games being too bright and vibrant and nothing like the dark and gritty games of the past but anytime a game is actually dark people complain they can't see and it's no fun.
I know how you feel. For me it's not that I hate night time, I just don't like the flash light, they are too bright. And also I wish they could bring back the bullet trail in version 0.8, it was epic when at night.

To be clear, I genuinely loved the thunderstorm, blizzard and sandstorm mutator's, they were an incredible addition to the game. I even liked the occasional pitch black mutator. I was also excited about the idea of dynamic daytime change. My issue is not with night time cycle, it is that every game was always night time throughout the entire game. It got so repetitive that even before I started a new game, I just assumed it would be was going to be night time... and there it was. It would be the same feeling you would get if you only played the same map for a week, after awhile you lose interest.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. They should.
coming back to this comment... the more i play the more i now notice night being heavy in rotation. and i don't care for it either when it might hit 60% or more of the matches.

wonder why this occurs? someone at the company like nighttime? :)

I do understand and you are not wrong. There does seem to be a lot of dark battles. I have no idea what the Devs could do about this to be honest. Can only hope they are figuring something out to make fun for all.

I don't find the night particularly bothersome, although it does hinder gameplay a bit.

For some reason, many developers interpret nighttime as "complete darkness," but some planets have moons, satellites that reflect light. On Earth, while the moon is overhead, it's as clear as a cloudy day. (Yes, I'm exaggerating a bit, but you can see clearly.)

It would be great if the darkness wasn't always absolute, or perhaps it varied depending on the planet. If it has a celestial body orbiting it, it shouldn't be so dark.

Just put it by side, wait for next major update, play a bit and wait for next update....
I like the game, the modes, the bugs. But i got enough other things to do play or drink, when it gets boring.
And really for me, ever 3+ month a bit of some changes, effects or gimmiks... not enough to stay all time.
After all, performance is fine at the moment, just boring ;)

Has anyone noticed that technically nobody really "did" get their citizenship yet. There isn't even an achievement for Citizenship... I'm just saying.
