yes thats the only way to move it forward. it doesnt have to be your company just has to be a company.
-Does 'quick play' count towards moving the bar?
you will get company points at the end of the mission. if you did not get any company points you didnt move the bar.
-If it's only tied to companies (guilds), it appears as though it's barely moving.
If you look at how far the bar has moved all ready its a mile long already and we are on wave 3 our of 8. Its slow but always moving. you can see how close to the next check point it is at the top of the info box. we are hitting a check point about every week. if you want to help it most join or make a company and do company missions. everyone should do their part.
-Why not allow 'quick play' games to contribute to moving the 'A New Frontier' bar?

Quickplay allows (with some luck) to join an operation started by a company where there is room.
But it's still an operation started by a company.
So, when completed, it counts towards the global progress.
