Helldivers 2 has made this game obsolete.
Unless this game really changes up its gameplay, HD2 is going to send it to an early (access) grave.

If you enjoy the game, go play it and spread democracy! We will still be around developing our ST:E and we hope we see people return in the future when our updates for things such as the Galactic War and R.A.I.D Initiative drop.

We're not in the market for arguing which game is better cause we're happy for Arrowhead and their release and we'll be locking this thread as the discussion has gotten fairly off-topic/negative.

ANOTHER whiner coming to troll ST:E community discussions with their unverified claims of Helldivers 2 being the next best thing and suggesting it is some like-for-like replacement for the EA game. If your community is so weak you feel the need to submit your unwelcome comments and attempt to grab new players from the EA player-base, then I pity you. Maybe ask yourself this, how would you feel if players from ST:E kept posting on Helldivers 2 suggesting you had all made a mistake in buying the game? Me, I am going to continue playing ST:E, killing bugs, gaining citizenship and submitting reports for the devs to improve their EA title, not waste my time fruitlessly attempting to steal players from another game.

Helldivers 2
  • Full Release
  • 4 players
  • ASE (Autodesk Stingray Engine) or just SE (Stingray Engine)
  • 3rd person mode
  • FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out)
  • Microtransactions
  • Exclusive premium battle pass weapons/armors only available if you buy premium
  • P2W (involving or relating to the practice of paying to get weapons, abilities, etc. that give you an advantage over players who do not spend money) .... maybe currently not feelable, but just wait .... i know this company
  • Strategems for orbital/air & weapon support + upgrades
  • More friendly fire kills than i´ve ever seen in a game
  • Upcoming DLCS for weapons, armors & others which aren´t for free (currently planned)
  • More abilities for different builds and adding it also for helmets & capes in the
    future

Starship Troopers: Extermination
  • Early Access
  • 16 players
  • UE5 (Unreal Engine 5)
  • Base building + Rush (Hive) & Raid bosses in the future
  • 1st person & 3rd person is planned (not official atm.)
  • Future DLCS are only skins and doesn´t affect gameplay
  • Orbital Strikes & air support are planned
  • ...and, and, and ...... Check their roadmap if you want to know more -> https://steamcommunity.com/app/1268750/eventcomments/4142816945494872978/

Btw. UE5 and ASE ... ASE is more user friendly and easier to program than UE5.
..... but ... with UE5 you can take much more out of it (if you know how and got the abilities) than ASE ever can. :awswvara:

Edit:

What i´ve important forgot....

HD2 use Gameguard for anti-cheat which is know as a rootkit, worse than EAC and not entirely safe.

HD2 is not without its issues man, I mean I enjoy it and probably will play it until the 0.7 update but getting a party there is as painful if not more of an issue than STE, and there's a steeper curve there too, half of the people don't know half of what they're doing. Here is mostly hardcore fans of the game that know how to play already. There's pros and cons in every scenario, to me, the performance issues that I have in STE are tough to ignore don't get me wrong, but if that were to be addressed plus extra classes and guns and mastery and all those cool changes planned + galactic war I'd most likely play this over HD2 or a combination of both. Everyone has their deal breakers and what keeps you from STE may not be so for other players.

I swear there are posts on Horse Riding Simulator games where people are posting about how Helldivers 2 made that game obsolete.

They do it even with RPGS, MMOS, Sports and others. You feel the carnival time. :eyerollblob:

HD2 will never have the epic atmosphere that STE provides

I've been mulling this conundrum for a bit. I want to really like Starship Troopers: Extermination without it just being a nostalgia trip better served by watching the movie. But, as someone who's played both this game and Helldivers: ST:E's atmosphere is pretty lacking. It cracks the door open with the theme and expects you to do most of the heavy lifting, immersion-wise, and isn't a gateway into the universe like the movie (or even the subsequent movie or 3D shows), which is an absolute shame considering games can be the ultimate medium.

This game is obviously built off of the movies that skewered the source material (Heinlein), but the Deep Space Vanguard isn't really different in presentation from Mobile Infantry outside of extra toys and base building. DSV is obviously supposed to be an elite unit, but it never *feels* like it in presentation. It's more like "everyone builds, noone quits". Normally UCF combat engineers were a specific group, so that also kind of clashes —maybe it'll make more sense when they do the class revamp. The game's version of TACCOM is also kind of generic, so it's not like it feels any different than, "You're MI, but you build bases and have extra toys to make it more fun."

Something else that ruins the atmosphere is there's no tools or funneling in-game to establish a natural chain of command, it's just the loudest person to start barking orders that usually forms any sense of cohesion. The mindset I end up gaining is that my character has joined an elite unit... that complains about how a base is built in a whiny voice. :comic: That part's not the game's fault entirely, but it's not doing any legwork to try to get that ball rolling. Sounds like your experience has been different, but mine's been largely the same each time.

straying from it's unique point of 16+ players

I'm not sure if I'd say this is "unique". Before Fortnite became a battle royale, it was a 4-player coop game where you build a base out of building pieces against a horde. Multiplying that by 4x is "unique" in the way that this sort of gameplay is not really an option outside of playing survival/exploration sandbox games that have invasion mechanics—but that also means not terribly unique in itself. It's a slice of cake out of a genre, much like most games. Uniqueness is an absolute rarity, and quite often a declaration of something as such is an admission of a lack of exposure.

Of things present, I would say the most "unique" thing is (naturally, considering licensing) the source material to lean on, and I feel like that should be improved more. It's not like it's completely absent from Starship Troopers: Extermination, but unfortunately between this and Helldivers 2, the latter was the first to evoke the same feeling as watching Starship Troopers in theaters back in '97. This game lacks the camp that the memes regarding the source material are CONSTANTLY cashing in on, something that I wasn't even able to ascertain until I played Helldivers 2 (and I didn't even enjoy the first one).

HD2 - 2x price, micro transaction & battle pass: no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thank you

Also, as an aside (I know you probably don't care but I see this a lot): the battle pass in HD2 can be earned in-game when you find super credits. It takes a bit, and you have to explore the map. While you can buy super credits, you can actually earn them in-game without spending money, and it's that currency that's used to buy the "paid" battle pass.

Semantics aside, there's a lot of horde shooters with squad-level mechanics. There's very few 16+ horde shooters. HD2 included.

Hell even in ST:E there's squad level mechanics (see Hive Hunt).

HD2 is hands down a superior experience and overall game in comparison.

Can someone explain to me why HD2 fan children need to come to the STE forum and constantly rage about how good HD2 is?

If you like HD2 so much why aren't you posting in the HD2 forum?

Also, last question, how much is Sony paying you to come over her and advertise their game?

mm i managed to get the premium battlepass with ingame currency after 60 hrs of playtime.
I kind of regret it tho cuz all the premium weapons are trash compared to the normal ones which kinda shows that the devs tried to avoid the "pay to win" thing.

I wish STE had the gore of helldivers 2 becouse right now all you have is gummy ragdolls with no blood.
DayChap Feb 13, 2024 @ 10:04pm
I like both. Helldivers 2 for my console friends. ST: Extermination for PC.
Panzer704 Feb 13, 2024 @ 10:28pm
The feeling is very different, HD2 you work as a small team with 4 mans, usually, every pro player is doing their job as solo in order to grind maximum resource. STE you work will a big group and you all fight with zerg with regular weapon, you dont have pro ob strike or air support.
So, why dont you play both and switch anytime you tired another.
Leht Feb 13, 2024 @ 11:28pm
have both. i like both. i play both. wtf problem?
HD2 = Hot console garbage.
One peek at the video confirmed it's a cheese fest.
