Some players thinks this is a "build a base of your dreams" game. but it isn't... it's a co'op squad game... wait even that is wrong... its actualy a player horde vs a bigger bug swarm horde. So anything goes apperently win or loose... 50/50.
Turrets need to be placed in the area that require the most help, so either a place where you know that the spawn will be strong, or a place where you know you will need cover for early extraction.
As of walls or bunkers, both of them are good choices only if you know how to build around it. Put turrets on large walls, and then, put smaller walls in front, this will allow you to protect said turrets far longer, allow you to have time to move on to repair if a breach occur but also allow the turrets to have clean sight to shot.
For the bunkers, a single turrets allow to help slow down a wave by shooting ranged enemy, aka, perfect for the extraction moment or big spawn where you a tiger or gun bug will spawn.
That's a definitive answer to this, both walls and bunker are correct solution, what matter is what is build next to it or what goal do you want them to achieve.
It also costly , 4000 ore , so it need to contribute in order to justify the cost .
cant plan around the bugs never gettting in tho gotta have redundancies
