kind of funny and kind of sad
In the book 'Starship Troopers' by Robert Heinlein, friendly fire was a BAD THING.

In this? I seem to get get killed more by friendlies than by Bugs.

Maybe a few 'administrative punishments' like the one Rico had in the movie would help? Maybe not.

This is, after all the COD/MOH crowd who bunny hop, dual wield HMGs and delight in running/jumping in front of heavy weapons as said heavy weapons fire. Because, they gotta get the kills and everyone else does not deserve them, so jumping in your shot is perfectly acceptable if DUMB in ANYTHING like a real world setting.

I am truly surprised that none of the teams I have been on have lost a game yet. I have died a lot, but usually because I ASSUME that teamwork matters. That the guy who just ran around me is looking for enemies behind me, instead of about light me up, like they do. Well, because it is kill, right?????? Also, because aiming is for twits and teamwork is for ninnies. The bugs often move too fast for the 'special people' to hit so they have to get kills SOMEHOW!

*shrug*

I can HOPE for a 'lore accurate' penalty for friendly fire. Like a whipping or in a case of multiple, hanging from the neck until dead if you survive to make it back to base. Why? Because that COULD have been one of the punishments Rico sustained, both in book and in the movie. Historically accurate too. You DID NOT break the rules without punishment in the organization that was the basis for the Mobile Infantry in both the book and the movies.

Play in veteran difficulty, get a mic and just call it out, "hey stop shooting me" if they don't the team will save you.

There is also no penalty for quitting the game so if you do roll super bad luck with friendly fire team just leave and join another match. I've only quit when joining in on no recourses everyone grabbing gas, not worth your time to stay.

Also remember don't ask for help in general, you need to be specific. Team demon can you kill the extermination objective. Or I need one jet pack and one tank to come with me to x. It's like telling someone to call 911 no one will do it until you narrow it down or be even more specific.

Open the score board with z, and say "damn so and so you are really killing it on score can you come with me to x?"

Killed more by friendlies than enemies? As in, on purpose griefers?

Cause if it's accidental TK, that is most likely on you. FF damage is rather low.

Yea last game someone with the semi auto + jump pack was getting high ground and shooting anyone with low health. Including me. Team eventually switched on and dropped him as soon as he would spawn. I'm talking like 5 troopers t-bagging at once.

Same guy did hide away until the end game, where he ran in and started removing our base...
There needs to be an auto-kick for players who do X amount of friendly fire + uninstall more than like 2 base structures or something.

Quit standing in peoples lines of fire, and get off the pleb difficulty with all the rabble.

No, for the very reason the OP said. People move in front of you to get the kill when you are shooting. Like that dumb guy in the film who had his head blown off with a helmet malfunction. Now I would love to blow peeps heads off if they stand in front of me when I'm shooting.

I do now. I am simply following Rico's instructions from the movie. 'Screw up in combat and I will shoot you myself!'

You never read the book, go back to plebbit

Really? That is funny, since I am re-reading my kindle copy right now. I am reading that because my paperback hard copy of that is far too fragile now to handle.

Did YOU?

Oh, wait. You read the novelization of the movie, didn't you? It is not even REMOTELY the same.

There were two enemy groups described in the book. The Greenies and the Bugs. The game uses the movie versions of the bugs, probably because they are easier to come by visuals for. There was 'one' set of visual that I know of for the original bugs and that was from a Starship Troopers board game that I once had a copy of. It vanished in one of my many moves, and I regret that to this day. It was a good board game. Far less complicated that Advanced Squad Leader.

Well if you stand in front of someone shooting, then you have screwed up.

Which is why we don't need an XP penalty because it's going to happen and it does. We are 16 random people and it will happen, we are not a military tight nit group.

And it will continue as well that I will troll them when they troll me.

Because 'I' find that fun. if you do not find it fun when I obliderate you as often as I can for TKing me, tough.

It was Rico's fault that the trooper got killed during the live fire training. He was the one who removed the helmet.

That isn't the quote and it wasn't even Rico who said it originally. C'mon, I thought this game was for fans of the franchise.

No, actually I believe it was Sergeant Jellicoe in the book who said that first. 40 or so years before the movie came out. Maybe Ace? I am not that far along re-reading the book yet. Ranzack and Rico were supposed to have a bit more decorum, being officers and all. But then again, decorum is for twits these days, just like tolerance and understanding.

Oh, my bad! Reading books is for weenies, isn't it? So, until they institute some kind of penalty for it, I can do whatever I want. I don't really need an excuse to punish crappy infantile behavior in a video game. I know, I know... I have to win the game for you while you go do whatever you want. But that doesn't mean I have to worry about hurting your feelings while I TRY to play the game.
