On the outside, the bugs will just rush through them.
No , it is terrible , if the bug already get into the base and attacking the wall surrounding the arc then the situation is already fked . The elec fence is weak in durability and prevent you from climbing to fix the ARC .
Instead , use them on narrow path ahead of a bunker , even a single Hunter with Hawkeye can defend the choke point for a long time till the elec wall give in and bug start to attack the bunker .
as someone pointed out the bugs are not programed to rush the arc once they are in the base area they spread out and target little bit of everything.
this means the that the electric fence is not going to get swarmed as long as there are other targets. this maters when your playing on vet as were if you put them on the front line your going to find that they last for all of about 2 seconds when the swarm dogpiles becasues they literally are in the way making them main target of the swarm. these things dont work like they do in the movies where they were a instakill as long as they were powered. if they worked like the movies then yea put them on the front line.
they are also great around the arc because you can see though them. this means that when a breach happens you can visual check to make the arc is clear in a second were if you solid walls you have to walk around and make sure a breach has not happened on the sides that are not visible from your current location.
They just need to allow placement of more things but increases the cost each time.
In reality it all depends on the current team which choice is better.
If you have any preference to how the base is being built then you should make your voice heard in the beginning of the match. I really dislike people coming back form a raid starting to complain about how the base is built when not a single word has been uttered up until that point.
I never design the build, but I can sometimes suggest that we "start building from the arc and outwards" or "should we build bunkers around the arc?" while waiting for the arc to land.
In my opinion, a communicating team is more important than a well built base.
The usual 1 exterior wall 1 inner wall with all fences around the arc works just fine. 1 bunker next to the arc with 3 fences or 2 bunkers with 2 fences on opposite sides are good for bad arc spawns. Id say the best fence funnel you could make is a fence in between 2 bunkers starting from the center and put an extra fence behind it in case it is breached.
But I think most of the time the arc spawns in places where you have to defend the entire surroundings and you cant make a perfect funnel which ends with the bugs just attacking whats around it instead of focusing where you want them to go. Id say if you really want to use them as walls use them for the inner wall where you know the bugs will go once they breach or put them to create extra lines of fire so players can kill breaching bugs from other parts of the base.
