There is no private servers at this time.
Community is LARGELY friendly.
You will get people that will tell you that you built the base wrong and start arguments or you will have people intentionally grief but most of the time, everyone is friendly and saying movie quotes.
The game does not scale bugs to player count. It does scale resources you have to collect, but an entire team of just four players will get mauled. Even teams of 16 get wiped out.
First, you're going to need some experienced randoms. Second, the community is pretty good for the most part.
Discussions over base building can get heated.....some people do tend to take a game a little too seriously at times (love you guys, but c'mon). However, if you don't take disagreement personally it's all good.
Remember, if it was a guaranteed win every time there'd be no point playing. Sometimes a loss happens just so the following win is all the sweeter.
Private servers would split the playerbase, which would kill the game.
I suspect though, if the devs are smart, that they will add a few gamemodes/mission types for smaller groups. However, such a thing probably won't show up until just before or after official release.
Basically they wanted to make everything as difficult as possible by not doing any extermination missions at all. But in the end the way they tried to force how the base would be build is what caused griefing and led to our eventual doom, as ore kept being wasted.
A big negative of this tactic was no rocket launchers at all, as there's barely or no time for such a field mission to pop up before the non-stop horde arrives if you don't do exterminate missions.
But other than that it's a good way to make vet more challenging and fun.
But with the current meta it's more like a 1-25 player horde shooter.
