4 player coop fine?
Is it fine to play with only 4 players or is the game really designed around 16 players? My friends and I wanna play this but we don't really want to play with randoms. Or how is the community, is it toxic?

You are always forced into lobbies to fill.
There is no private servers at this time.

Community is LARGELY friendly.
You will get people that will tell you that you built the base wrong and start arguments or you will have people intentionally grief but most of the time, everyone is friendly and saying movie quotes.

The game does not scale bugs to player count. It does scale resources you have to collect, but an entire team of just four players will get mauled. Even teams of 16 get wiped out.

First, you're going to need some experienced randoms. Second, the community is pretty good for the most part.

I get the ocasional griefer or troublemaker (screaming in mic, teamkilling) in around 5% of my games. They are very rare. Most people are very chill and just want to have a great time wasting Bugs with strangers from all over the world.

You can at least collect your friends in the Lobby and all of you will join the same map. The forum is generally more toxic than the game. It's roughly on par with Star Wars Battlefield that way.

If you can quote the movie, you should be fine. So far I've found this to be one of the chillest communities around. Sure you will come across the occasional troll etc. just like any online game, but relatively few and far between in my experience.

Discussions over base building can get heated.....some people do tend to take a game a little too seriously at times (love you guys, but c'mon). However, if you don't take disagreement personally it's all good.

Remember, if it was a guaranteed win every time there'd be no point playing. Sometimes a loss happens just so the following win is all the sweeter.

You have to play with 16 people.

The Lobbies should allow 4 or more to do Bootcamp, test out Base Designs, & have a Wave or 2 of Bugs to test it, in current "VR" area, I understand that you can do some of that in "Real" Game, but here it does not get in the way of People Fighting Bugs in a "Real Mission"

No private servers and thankfully so far the devs have not announced any intention of adding them. You can que up with a full match's worth of players, which is unheard of in any game at this quantity.

Private servers would split the playerbase, which would kill the game.

I suspect though, if the devs are smart, that they will add a few gamemodes/mission types for smaller groups. However, such a thing probably won't show up until just before or after official release.

Late in the Roadmap, there's plans for clans (not something I personally look forward to, since clans will likely TK outsiders), but that might also mean a reorganization of servers.

You can set a premade team by having them join on you through steam. Anywhere from 2 to 16 but you will get matched with others to ensure the match has 16 if possible. Though i have seen matches that do not.

Fun reminder, if you hold down Z, you can mute anyone that is yelling or abusive.

Would be nice if they added private servers and the bugs scale to the amount of people. Its something that the devs should really think about adding

Had a group of 8 (Phoenix something) "take over" a veteran ARC lobby but in a mostly friendly manner.
Basically they wanted to make everything as difficult as possible by not doing any extermination missions at all. But in the end the way they tried to force how the base would be build is what caused griefing and led to our eventual doom, as ore kept being wasted.

A big negative of this tactic was no rocket launchers at all, as there's barely or no time for such a field mission to pop up before the non-stop horde arrives if you don't do exterminate missions.
But other than that it's a good way to make vet more challenging and fun.

Game design is supposed to be build around 4 man squads with 5 squads in total.
But with the current meta it's more like a 1-25 player horde shooter.
