Mutators need to be optional
I get wanting to shake things up a bit now and then but i am pretty sure most of us were on board with Extermination for that movie feel, and last i checked there were no scenes where Johnny Rico just slapped a bug on the buttocks like the bad boy that it was, and it just exploding, or when they were at the Outpost, looking over the wall and just saw a firing squad of gunners ready to delete them, let alone the Mobile Infantry strapping suicide vests.

When i first read the announcement of these, i immediatly thought "Yeah these are silly, and won't fit", and i was absolutely right.

But at the same time, i don't want to see them removed. After all they can be quite funny, however.. can we please get a playlist specifically for them, and remove them from the normal gameplay?

You'll get arguments about splitting the community but I'm 100% with you. They feel like community mods for niche servers. I just wanted to fight the bugs straight up with my weapons and abilities, and my team mates. No silly mutators required.

Maybe the data they collect from all this will give them a select few that are fun or challenging enough to warrant a separate playlist. Otherwise just keep rolling the dice and get some weird experiences in until it starts looking normal again.

I'd splits the community the same way different difficulties too. I don't see it being that much of an issue, unless the player count drops to three digits for which the chance of course is not zero.

The only concern with splitting the community is the fear games would not fill. Well people could quit playing due to some of the mutators which could affect filling games.

I personally really like the Mutators, its been a great way to see the possibilities of the current state of the game, while adding verity to the same map and the only two current game modes. The mutator with mostly drones and baby drones feels closet to the movie scene whiskey outpost, if this game was completely true to the movies then its already off its main course. So honestly its just nit picking at this point. I am a huge fan of star ship troopers the "original film" released in 1997 and the book by Robert A. Heinlein. So given what the company has and what they can do, the mutators are a good temporary filler for what this game dose not have at the moment. But hopefully with time the devs can fill the gap between video game fun and starship trooper lore.

Like those i don't mind at all. It's mostly the really silly ones that just take me out of it completely, or the "Yeah you'll just gonna lose now" ones.

Yeeeeh....

That isn't Starship Troopers. You are talking about some generic sci fi cockroach mashing phone game.

In Starship Troopers, bugs stomp the troopers in every scenario, except when troopers use their wits(which few have except Rico), forts, and big nuke launching guns.

I think the mutators should be reserved for custom horde lobbies, not public random matches.

I also think that players need to drop out of every single match with the BS mutators. I am sure they can see those numbers on their servers. If the sandstorm has a 57% drop out rate they might get the message.

I find the ambush mutators where enemies are constantly attacking during missions, to be tiresome and tedious after a while. I liked how it was before the update, the last part of the mission being the big moment. When I got the gunner bug ambush mutator I had to leave the game. Who thought of that one?? I rather these mutators have a % chance to occur once during the mission, than have it go on throughout the entire mission up until the end. It makes just for a non stop hectic experience.

Its mighty hard to get data for balancing when every match is inherently different and you have no way to balance around a set, streamlined experience across all difficulty modes.

I agree with OP 100%. Mutators were fun the first day, when trying to find out how they worked, now they just killed the game for me. When there's a mutator I don't like I don't want to play. My only option is to wait for a different one and pray that I get a better one. That's just not good.

Or play easy difficulty. It has no mutators.

Easy is a joke.

It's amazing they thought that forcing this on even normal mode was somehow a great idea.

Who are they even catering to with leaving mutators out of easy, but including them in literally every other mode? Either train new players on what they're going to be forced to play at some point, or don't implement them at all.

I have not played a terrible mutator yet. Sandstorm does not bother me either. In war, the weather is not always favorable. I'll fight poor visibility and adversity. Lol you guys still want new bugs to disrupt your games? This is a decent way to add new experiences. I'm okay with it though doubtless it has room to improve.

When you go to war, nothing is optional. Expect surprises, that's part of the challenge and fun.
