A Relatively Balanced Review Of Millennia From A Mohawk Games Dev
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/millennia-age-of-verbosity-long-form-review.689269/

I think this review is pretty interesting.

I've been saying since I first tried it that Age Of Heroes needs a DLC to really shine. I agree that some of the other ages need to do a bit more.

I agree that the production chains and national spirits are the unabiguous success of the game. Governments and ages could use a little more depth.

One thing I wish the reviewer went into more is how Millennia had a blank slate and could have ditched some Civ conventions, especially considered that Old World didn't really do that much to differentiate from Civ so seeing one of their devs talk about the idea is a little head-scratching.

They're a bit hit and miss. I think part of the problem there though is the AI doesn't really seem to adjust it's playstyle if you go into a variant (or for that matter crisis) age which makes some of them a flop - Age of Intolerance for example should be an epic clash of religions; since the AI doesn't seem to understand how to spread it's religion (or just doesn't bother) though unless it happens to get lucky you could re-title the era Age of Religious Themed Buildings, since that's about the only part of it you'll actually get to use.

It's one of the odd points about the review. They open by complaining the game is too similar to Civ and missed the opportunity to rewrite the genre, then proceed to complain about pretty much everything the game does that's different from Civ, which gives the impression they'd rather be playing Civ (or got lost looking for Age of Empires).
