How do i return a city to an ally?
So i was a bit late with my army to help an ally. I got there after they lost the city, retook it for them, but i cant work out how to give it back to them.
So ive now got a city in the middle of about 5 of theirs in their territory. No interest in keeping it. I went back and checked and i couldnt even raze it. So.... am i missing something?

You don’t miss anything. You can’t give it back

Lol and now my ally just broke our alliance because they were mad i had settlements too close to them. Which i guess it true, the one i conquered (and wanted to give back) is right in the middle of their territory.
Sigh.

You could destroy the settlement?

In order to 'defend' the AI here: Its quite likely that they would have declared war on you anyways at some point. Diplomacy depends almost exclusively on the Score Difference with some consideration of other wars/ enemies.

I love what this game has started as, but hope it will evolve some.

I hope liberation mechanics get put in.

The ability to give or just trade things including territory and resources would be great. Gifts rewarded with opinion for example, beyond the available diplomatic options.

I'd prefer a mechanic that could tolerate an enclave/encroaching area under some circumstances, but that is a little complex - not impossible.

If a territory was recently taken from an original founder or long term owner, taking it back within a modest time should not give (as much?) chaos or require (as) long for reintegration as taking a truly foreign space.
