Poor performance past turn 150?
The game becomes progressively more hitchy for me as it goes on. After about turn 150 it's bad enough to not be very fun any more. It's definitely playable, but very jerky and unpleasant. It performs much worse for me than games like Civ VI and AoW IV.

I'm curious how many others are having performance issues vs people who are having a buttery smooth experience.

I'm on AMD Ryzen 9 3950X and RTX 2080 Ti.

No issues with me when running via proton. Have similar specs as you. Performance stays decent till the end of the game. Not sure if it could be just the different ways the game can progress? I wipe out most of the AI by the end, only leave them a little bit to play with.so that I can experiment with game mechanics.

I've got a beefy machine and even that will struggle with Millenia late game (it's not just you). The game appears to unload inactive map chunks so if you're clicking through idle armies on opposite sides of the world it'll tend to chug as it offloads an old chunk and loads in a new chunk.

yeah i got to the age of alchemy and performance started going down hill. By the time i got to the final age (age of depatrue) it got so bad that i made it to a fifth of the way to winning and decided i couldnt take anymore and abandoned that game. I am currently waiting for a patch before i start another round.

the game's late era performance is a pile of rotten potatoes I had an Age of Archangels set up but the game had slowed down so much I didn't want to slog through the extremely long turn timer to win eventually.

Yeah, something to do with map chunks makes sense. I notice that if I restart the game and reload a save file, that's when perf is at its worst. If I scroll around the map and load in areas, it helps a bit, although it doesn't fully solve it. It's like it can only keep so many loaded at once or something. Maybe the game is a bit too ambitious for whatever engine they're using?

Pretty much my experience. Ages 1-6 every thing moves like a laser beam. Ages 7-8 it's perfectly playable. 9-10.. I need to find something else to do between turns.
