TBH, though, the whole controversy over ancient Egypt's ethnic heritage makes me appreciate the OP's suggestion of having players choose their units' ethnic appearance. The game already allows you to create custom nations where you get to set city and town names, so they could let you choose your nation's ethnic appearance as well.
Interesting how you don't see all the women but do see too many white people... I agree it's dumb but you see one and not the other?
I support the suggestion.
It's why I almost exclusively play Civ 5 with the mod R.E.D. activated "Regiments and Ethnic Diversity". It doesn't just change some skin colours but each actual units fits the look for each nations historical units for each specific era. Yamato looking battyleshiop for japan in WWI etc etc. The R.E.D. mod also make the units smaller and adds more untis so they look like a formation or like a regiment. Personally they become a bit too small for me and details are very small, so I also use a mod mod for R.E.D. to revert units back to their original size. That way I get to keep each cultures/nations unique look, but also able to see the details on units better.
A bonus is thgat since the R.E.D. mod and the mod mod in Civ 5 only canges the skin on units and not stats, achievemenst still counts. :)
I was happy when Humankind more or less had that built into the base game. It's not exactly nation unique, but more unique by real world region each culture comes from. South Ameriucan look, Asian look, European look etc on units.
I would very much welcome that in Millennia too, but I think they need to optimixze the game better as it would be more demanding on the system with all unique skin having to load. R.E.D. mod often requires you to go down one setting in graphical quality on Civ 5 to run without crashing. In early game it runs on highest setting, later it can crash if too many nations and unit skins has to load in at the same time on high graphics setting. It coiuld eb an old Civ 5 game engine issue/limitation and no matter how new or how modern PC you have it can still carsh like that.
