Let's talk reviews
Yeah, there are some bad reviews. IGN's 5/10 and this Polish publication's "4.0 very weak"[www.gry-online.pl], specifically. RPS seems to not care for it a lot and GameWatcher has it at 6.0, saying it's promising but it misses opportunities.

Then there are good reviews. Wargamer[www.wargamer.com] has a lot of good things to say, although it doesn't appear on Metacritic because they don't do scores. Their summary is, "It’s a flawed but lovely gemstone of a strategy game, and perhaps one of the finest Civ rivals in years." PCGamesN has 7/10[www.pcgamesn.com] citing a strong offering with "a few key issues that keep it from greatness". Hardcore gamer gives it 3.5/5[hardcoregamer.com] (really more of an "average" review), citing excellent gameplay but a poor UX, dated visuals, and a midgame slog they didn't care for. MSN, another scoreless review source,[www.msn.com] says "plenty of fun to be had and countless hours" in a game that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but is very fun.

What am I getting at?

It's a middling game. Generally games that fall in the middle of the road on reviews are a case of, "If you really like the genre, you'll enjoy it. If you're a more rounded gamer, you might not enjoy it so much." Some people like it, some don't, it's not a huge deal.

I haven't cared about official review sites since I was a child. I can make my own mind up over whether a game is good or not, thanks.

Most of the people hating on this game are a bunch of trolls hurling insults at anybody who doesn't hate the game anyway (See NTense's comments)

Or some are just farming "clown" awards for steam points. That's unfortunately also a thing on Steam. People seem to fall for that bait sometimes. I have probably also fallen for it in the past. If people would just stop falling for that and not give them the clown award, that trend would at least die out and those people would have to find another way to troll to benefit from it.

I have to imagine, because I can't comprehend being silly enough to preorder a mobile game that grinds to a halt on the 400th turn. I'm jealous

Of me? Why? I ordered a PC game on Steam. Mobile isn't my jam.

Fully priced $60 game if you get the "finished version" ......"middling" in 2024 just not good enough

And that comes from the shill media.... dont forget that.

My advice (only an advice, you do not need to follow it) is to stop feeding certain trolls. If you respond to them directly, you are only giving them what they want. They get off on it. Often and sadly due to in their real life they don't get that much attention by anyone. They aren't that tough cool guy they pretend to be online.

Note that I do not point a finger at anyone and not calling anyone in particular a troll, as to not turn this into any personal attack. Something the trolls on the other hand enjoy doing. If they eventually can bait you to lose your temper and make even more fun of you that way, or even report you if you lose it and post really rudely back, the more happy they get. They drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience in being that low. That's where they live, dwell and prosper. Ignoring them is what hurts them most. Then they feel smaller. Maybe just as small as they are irl.

Again, just an advice. You do as you please of course.

Well I don't particularly buy into "shill media" reviews in the first place, I only bring it up at all because others are pointing hair-on-fire at the negative ones. As for whether it's good enough, that's not the issue. The issue is that it's getting middling reviews. All this means is that it's a fun time for those in the niche, but more mainline gamers might not enjoy it for various reasons.

Haha, I appreciate the advice, but worry not. I've been on the other side of the troll experience, I'm just too old and too aware of God's love for the trolls to get upset at them anymore. Having a bit of a riposte party with them, is all.

I hope you did not watch any streamers or other advertisements. Hell, even reading the steam page or being in this forum should be forbidden according to your logic, since being here influences your choice not to do something else with your live …

The paradox hype train is real, and so are the reviews.

I'm confused. Are you saying there's merited hype and the abundance of "It's a pretty good game, Brent" reviews prove it, or that the negative reviews are real and the hype is unmerited?

Personally, I'm not even sure about a "hype train" for this one. There's like five people here on this forum excited for it and that's about it. I've seen a couple ads on Youtube (this is outside the sponsored content), but to be honest I felt like they were overadvertising a game that's likely not gonna appeal to the average gamer.

Well, whatever. I'm hyped and that's what matters from my end.
