Each city generates Influence, how much is shown in the city overwiew. This influence is devided between all tiles next to a citys border. For Example: If your city produces 10 Influence per turn and you have 20 unclaimed tiles next to your citys border, each tile will be influenced by 0.5 per turn.
If you leftklick on a tile next to your border you can see how much influence it needs, and how much there is already on it. Once the cap is reached the city expands.
How much is needed depends on various things:
1. What kind of tile is it? Each different tile (wood, gras, etc.) has another basic cost it seems
2. How far is it away from your city? The farther away it is, the more points it needs.
3. Are there things that change the cost? There are different things that can reduce the needed influence for a tile. For example: If you put down a town the needed influence around it will be reduced drastically. Some sciences also have an impact on this, and then there are the national spirits, that also can have skills in them, that reduce influence costs of certain tiles.
And for your second point:
The points you gain from events are usually one time only, except maybe some inspiration events.
If you have points on buildings or improvements, those are usually per turn things, unless stated otherwise, but in the case of improvements they need to be worked on to give that bonus XP.
Also a good rule of the thumb is, that if you get 1 or 2 points, it is probably a per turn thing, if you get 5, 10, 20 or more, it will always be a one time thing, since it would be way to broken to get this many points per turn out of a single source, at least in the early stages of the game that are in the demo, might change later with rising costs.
and stuff like inevation there are heres 20 inovation (one time) and other theres heres 10 inovation per turn and there is no clear if its one or the other.
and I think I had simular stuff whit other.
also the Border expansion there is no real feedback on in how long untill my border will expand and how many tiles I will get (like Am I 3 or 10 or 20 turns away) would be nice to know so that I know is it worth to put point into pop growth or will I just hit a wall of there is no work tiles awalible or is it better for me to have them work on production tiles instead.
You can always check the points you get per turn by looking at the XP-Bars on the left side, there you can see how many points you generate per turn and where they are coming from.
And are you sure you got one time innovation, because I thing I never encountered that and thought up to now that innovation always is a per turn thing, since it fills the bar.
And you can always see how the status of your border expansion is. You can leftclick on tiles to see how many influence they need and how much there already is. And if you press P you can switch to a view where it shows how much influence is going into each tile from your city and how "full" the tiles already are. With those informations you can know how long it takes before your border expands.
How much a tile have and how much it need but not how much it gets per turn (and how many turn untill converted)
because the tile info dont show how much its growing whit each turn.
With the points you get per turn it can be confusing, especially with the innovation, chaos and unrest. And since there are over a dozen various points you get per turn it can be unclear. Also I noticed that I got +1 knowledge, but the infopanel only updated for the next round.
Also the innovation points per turn are only gathered until the next innovation? I believe I was getting +10 or something, but after I got the innovation pop up I was again getting only +3.
