Is the pet drop rate really this low?
I saw the formular was [(action time in seconds) * (virtual skill level +1)] / 25 000 000

So I plugged in my current progress [(3) * (90 +1)] / 25 000 000 and it works out to

273 / 25,000,000 = 0.00001092.

Does that mean every action there's a 0.001092% probability of a pet dropping? Surely it can't be that low? That's insane.

Considering that you're constantly rolling the dice....not really.

This is a long term idle game with no ascension mechanic.

You're not saving up for a next time with better exponents. THIS is the time.

The time is indeed now old man.

As mentioned, this a very slow-paced idle game, not meant to be played actively. I wouldn't worry about getting pets until after you're done all other things, chances are you might get lucky and get a pet just from pursuing other things. Once you want to focus getting a pet, just do the dungeon or skill or whichever it is you're targeting and leave the game running for a day or two (can be offline, just make sure you have offline combat enabled and you don't risk dying) and the pet will be yours. You're gonna need to do that anyways to get all the masteries and dungeon clear requirements and other things, so it's not really a big deal. I've had to focus on very few pets to get, most I just got naturally, and the few I need to focus on didn't take long to finish.

For context, I've 100% everything except the latest Into the Abyss expansion where I have 80.76% completion. I've been playing for 3 years, 104 days, 6 hours, 34 minutes, 19 seconds, according to my Melvor statistics just now. I started playing regularly but at some point I started using some automation mods, especially for some more annoying active or semi-active (regular check-in) mechanics, especially in the expansions; things like farming, township management, auto-loot, auto mastery pool spending (to prevent overflow) because I don't have time nor care to do all those things manually all the time but YMMV.
There's a built-in mod manager in the game with the SEMI series of mods helping with the aforementioned automation, but there's many other QoL mods too and even full on cheat mods (but what's the point in using that then, might as well just not play at all).

TL;DR This is a glacial pace idle game, not meant to be played actively at all (bar few exceptions), the engagement comes from the complexity of the mechanics and interactions, not from active interaction with the game.

That's incredible, how do you view actual in game character age?

In the left menu, scroll all the way down and in the "Other" section, there's a statistics button, right near the Lore and Settings buttons

Cool, my character is 22 hours, 55 minutes and 18 seconds old. He's not even 1 day old yet :D
You have a long journey ahead of you then, hopefully an enjoyable one :)
