Yes, prayers that cost per enemy attack will trigger on every hit of an enemy attack, so protect item would trigger 20 times per dragon breath and cost 40 prayer points.

Thx.
Speaking of which, what about multi-hit attacks? Like the Ancient Magic spells? Do they also use prayer points per hit during a single attack? I assume rune cost is for the whole attack.

Spells consume runes per spell cast, not per hit, so a spell like Slicing Winds that hits 3 times will consume runes once per spell, not three times. There are some outliers, like the special ability on the Cloudburst Staff which consumes runes per hit, but it states that in the item description.

As for prayers, I am a bit less sure, but I believe this is how it works. For a multi-hit attack, prayer points are consumed on the first part of the attack, but not on the subsequent parts. Prayer XP can only be gained if this first part of the first attack hits, so subsequent hits from the same attack will not consume prayer points and will not give prayer XP. However, the subsequent attack DO still benefit from the bonus of the prayer.

For example, if using the Slicing Winds spell (which hits 3 times) and the Augury prayer, the first hit of Slicing Winds will consume 7 prayer points, and if it hits, give prayer XP. The second and third hits will not consume prayer points or give prayer XP, but they still benefit from the increased Accuracy and Max Hit from the Augury prayer being active.
Thanks. I assume this would be the same basic concept for multi hits for ranged and melee too? As in they count it per attack, not per individual hit within the attack, both for prayer points and for ranged, ammo. Unless it specifically mentions otherwise of course.

Yes, so the Quad Attack from Infernal Claw hits 4 times, only the 1st hit spends prayer points and can earn prayer XP, if it hits.
