I need gold to level up township to 80 so I can unlock taxation

From what I've read levelling up township is a massive gold sink early game, and gold is hard to come by early game.

I'm currently levelling up astrology and golden stardust sells for 1k each but I don't really want to sell that because I'll use that to get buffs to my woodcutting and stuff.

What's a relatively good source of gold early EARLY game, as in day 1 - 5?

Or should I just delay upgrading township until later on in the game?

Fishing imo. You can quickly push to start fishing magical fish. It's easier than needing to grind out random ♥♥♥♥ for agility and food and stealth stuff for thieving.
Also the earlier you push township the earlier you can forget about money.

Yeah, but your goal is to level up to iirc 80-90 where you get access to raw magical fish, and also try to get message in a bottle to unlock where to catch that fish. That's the most profitable fish to catch for quite a bit.
I can get around 2 mil a day from selling that iirc. Or maybe more, I can't remember exactly. Or was it 2 mil per hour? Wiki has the numbers for it.
