Ranged weapon question
Greetings!
So I started Melvor relatively recently and have been doing only melee combat. Now I've been thinking about leveling ranged soon but can't quite decide what weapons to use.
I've looked it up and found some discussion on Reddit saying that crossbows are the best and you can use a shield with them, but is it still the case? And what about stuff like javelins? Are they any good?
There's just a bunch of options and I would appreciate if someone who knows the game better than I do (which at the moment is a low bar to meet lol) could somewhat explain differences and benefits of ranged weapons.

PS. I obviously mean weapons from the ones you can make yourself, not some unique ones you get from dungeons or similar. Just to clarify.

Thanks in advance!

That's a loaded question that has to many possible answers. Different players will have different preferences and not all are right or wrong.

In my humble opinion, doing only one combat is not a good idea down the road, second it all depends on what your preferences are through trial and error, what potions you're using armor ect.. and if you're trying to get achievements that's another story.

I'm kinda just looking for something that hits hard and can help me level ranged as quickly as possible since right now I'm sitting at Ranged level 1. Like I mentioned, I was looking at javelins but couldn't find any feedback if they are any good. My goal right now is mostly to be able to do the wizard dungeon, kinda feel like going in there with melee would be a waste of time since at my current level (when I did it combat level was 40-something, now it's 61) it was already tricky to kill the bandit leader.

Early cartography and archaeology gets you access to the old hunting bow from the old village, which is a good option for early ranged combat. I used magic to get the initial gear for ranging. Clearing the ice dungeon gets you access to ranged str gear and the ice longbow.

My ranged weapon progression was something like old hunting bow -> ice longbow -> elerine longbow -> ancient hunting bow.

I mass produced mithril arrows for the initial levels.

You can get the ancient hunting bow from the old village as well.

I recommend using the lesser summoning amulet while training, its surprisingly good.

I used iron knives to level up to 20 ranged.

I probably should've mentioned I don't have any DLC yet, kinda just doing the base game for now. Cartography and archeology are DLC things if I'm not mistaken?
Knives are a good suggestion, they seem easy to make so for leveling itself probably what I'll have to go with.

And by the way, do I need to wear leather armor when training ranged? Or is my runic melee set fine for it?

Melee armor has negative modifiers to ranged.
