Well you could try looking up the word "clicker", which usually will give you games that are a combination of idle and active gameplay. I will list a couple recommendations:

Paid:
- Kiwi Clicker
- Cookie Clicker
- The farmer was replaced (this is a coding idle game in Python)

Free:
- Bitburner (this is a coding idle game I think it's in Java)
- Idle Research (idle game with lots of different idle elements and you can play solitaire daily)
- Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms (rpg d&d like idle game)
- Idle Slayer (more active gameplay with a lot of idle elements to it)

Hope this helps :D

Runescape.
Correct answer! Oh my childhood. So many memories...
This is literally a full AFK version Runescape. If you want this game but less AFK, Runescape 3 or OldSchool Runescape will be the game you're looking for. You can also AFK a lot in RS too, if you want.
For me I want to really play Old School Runescape but I have no money to keep subscribing to the game + there are no asian Runescape servers sadly after over a decade.

Runescape is the closest thing to Melvor Idle since Melvor Idle took heavy inspiration to Runescape.

I don't remember RuneScape being an idle like game. But I also barely played it back as a kid.
Runescape isn't idle, it has a 5 minute auto log out timer, or at least when I played last which was years ago, it was like that & was like that for a very log time, if you don't move your camera or interact with something that interacts with the in game menu in any way, it logs you out immediately, so definitely not idle at all

While not technically the same, Black Desert is actually idle-able, you can idle for 24 hours straight without touching anything, which is a bit more of an expanse (Paid)MMO with better graphics & of course first person full Open World Exploration

I do not recommend black desert. It's "gambling" system is insane and will block you from late game content. There was a man that spent over 6k real life money trying to roll for better gear and failed. Or you spend days farming those mats for a chance to make what you need.

Fishing can sort of be idle but you can be kidnapped if not careful. Idk if that was ever fixed. But "whales" control the game, imo.

The fighting system requires you to be able to perform combos to be competitive in pvp and you'll need that gear that hasike less than a 1% chance of making.
Sorry, I wasn't really suggesting Black Desert, was more for the feature of idle function, whereas Runescape does not have such a feature, even though they probably should as they have added plenty of features that allow idle functionality with some skills

You can speculate that it is gambling, but spending money on it is optional, apart from buying the game itself which is usually always really cheap, that comes with 0 subscription fees, so you pay for the full game

For those that spend money on the game for such practices is their own fault, I haven't spent a dime & I'm playing it just fine with my many hundreds of hours at level 63, it's a great game for people who loves combo & hack & slash type games like Vindictus

They give away a lot of free items & bonuses regularly from daily to weekly to monthly & events of course, while still RNG based, items vary from cheap to really expensive, of course more expensive items are more rare to land on with less chances, I have gotten a few items that are extremely rare, so it is still possible & not really a scam

I played BDO back in 2020 or 2019. It is definitely a gambling system. You spend weeks to a month grinding for a spin on a wheel in hopes of getting what you want or something better than what you have already.
