Birthday fishing event sucks as a new player

So, I'm going through the birthday event here and I've been playing for a couple weeks or so now. It seemed pretty neat, until I realised that I would have to spend basically the entire next month doing nothing but fishing to be able to complete this challenge. Might as well throw out all the rest of the birthday stuff because I actually want to do more stuff other than fishing.

FYI, you can quit the current match by clicking on leaderboard and selecting difficulty again. The required fish if randomised every time.

Try it again, I just finished MASTER and got the check mark for finishing all the fishing,

I have been refreshing for swordfish in the first event all morning with above 80 mastery and haven't been able to finish the first event. I haven't looked at the requirements for the others, but my fishing level is only 63, so it seems unlikely that I can even begin the other fishing challenges.

The birthday event seemed pretty accessible until I realised this was going to be an issue. Seems pretty unfortunate that the actual prize at the end of this event is locked behind a few hundred hours invested in a single skill.

They like to do this. They removed lower tiered loot boxes from township, so people would have to grind longer. I'm ignoring the fishing event, just as many of us ignored the DLC.

Edit: Just think about the people who share this game, or have more than one character. I've got an adventure and standard, but my adventure route is level 53. Fishing can only max out at 53 so no point using that character.

I actually have all 6 slots running. 4 of them are hardcore characters just doing astrology for when I actually want to get around to playing them.

I play on my friends account. She was doing the same thing, but DLC killed it for her. Didn't add anything she wanted and made it more grindy. She hasn't even asked to play it and I told her about this event.
Some of the tasks can't be completed by lower leveled characters. Like crafting something, or agility. It's a developer oversight and since the DLC seemed to bomb, this event is perfect for them. They are trying to sell a plushy as well at the same time. Makes me think they are just trying to avoid fixing problems, but now they are just adding more.

Try it again, I just finished MASTER and got the check mark for finishing all the fishing,

Redid it on a other character, got all S-Tier + 1st place succesfuly this time, but it doesn't say Completed in the Birthday Event Tab

I had the same thing happen. I think the requirements are you have to catch an S AND win to get completion medal and then you have to get a P AND win to get a mastery medal.

When I saw this happen I caught only A until the last round which pulled in a P and shot me to the top, no medals awarded. Kept going and a few rounds later I got a win with highest S. This got me the completion medal. Another few rounds and I got to the top again with a P but I'd caught an S along the way. This got me the mastery medal on top of it.
