Unable to 'Select Recipe' for Herblore / Cannot downgrade potion tiers
I'm trying to craft Tier 1 potions for a Township Task, but I cannot.
The Hint for this task does not help.
What does "use the Herblore Potion if you cannot create Tier 1 Potions normally" mean?
What's an Herblore Potion?
Why does the game let us Select Recipe for all the other crafts in the game, except for Herblore?

Herblore Potions are a level 90 potion in Herblore that have a chance to reward an extra potion of a random tier (I.E. Crafting T3 Bird Nest Potions, you could get a random Bird Nest Potion ranging from T1-4)

So, because I invested a bit of time in making Bird Nest Potions and passed beyond Tier 1, I now have to wait until I get Herblore to level NINETY, and HOPE I get a Tier 1 version of Birds Nest Potion??

WHY?

Other crafts let me CHOOSE the recipe! It's potioncrafting... SURELY I can change how potent I want to make the potion!

This is a dumb mechanic that needlessly punishes newer inexperienced players.

Pretty much no other non-combat skill lets you choose the output of a specific recipe (well, cooking let's you disable perfect cooks but that's about it).

How is it punishing? You want Herblore 95 ASAP anyway for Diamond luck Potions.
Plus nothing is locked behind a singular task and the reward for it (~225 mahogany logs sense Controlled Heat Potions require 3 mahogany logs per-craft) is barely worth the time investment so skipping it can't hurt you.

If it really bothers you, there are multiple mods that allow downgrading potions.

I can select recipe for summoning. It would be like I can no longer craft goblin tablets using Bronze Daggers anymore because I gained to much experience from crafting goblin tablets; now I have to get my mining and smithing to level 90 to craft adamant daggers if I want to make goblin tablets.

I can select recipe for cooking. If I make too many Cooked Chicken, I don't have to get Cooking to level 90, craft a bunch of high level food in hopes of getting a random bonus Cooked Chicken on the side.

I don't care about selecting the level of potion. You should just be able to downgrade potions. Ever heard of dilution? Far more believable than being able to upgrade potions.

Tell me one instance where you would choose to downgrade your potion other than this singular township task.

Tell me one instance where you would choose a lower level potion when crafting, other than this singular township task.

You missed the point is all im saying.

I am just reviving this because it is incredibly annoying. Why would anyone design something like this?
bro doesn't understand he's making better pots with same amount of ingredients lol

I mean, you can get tier1 potions from potion boxes as well. If it's easier for you to finish more township tasks than level herblore, for some reason.

... or at least, that's what I *would* say if I didn't just realize this post was a massive necro.

I can't believe how they designed this... I bet the same person did this that came up with the barrier mechanic...

Yep. I just got screwed with it. I'll have to do an extra task to reach level 40 so I can get the box and complete the normal easy task that requires 25 Bird Nest Potions. LOL. What a stupid decision or overlook by the dev.

What about barrier mechanic? That's from the DLC, right? If so, I'm good as I'm not going to buy it.

The barrier mechanic uses items you gain in the dlc to deal with content from the dlc. It's literally self contained but modern gamers love complaining about the smallest obstacles.

If good or bad, one less thing for me to worry about. Haha.
