The issue I get is when i'm re-organising my bank tabs. Like say I move all of the potions I (currently) have to a new tab, I'll then end up with random potions that I didn't have at the time turning up in whichever bank tab I was using when I last had them. If I use Herblore potions I'll end up with a bunch of random tier 1/tier 2 potions turning up in my Mining and Farming tabs etc.
Ie. when I make dragon javelins and use all my redwood logs. The redwood logs disappear from bank and will be placed at the bottom of the tab they are in. So instead of keeping all my logs in the first tab in a specific location. I should... make a tab with logs.
You have convinced me to keep all my herblore potions in the first tab and never moving them. That way the random potions will always be where I want them.
You do have a small options menu for the tabs once you select an item. Above the description window is a small gear that will give you a couple options on how the inventory is sorted.
I do the same, my last 3 tabs are specifically for just the 3 combat styles, I leave the first tab for new items, 2nd tab fish/food, 3rd tab a multitude of just all resource gatherings as well as their resource creating, then the next being farming & herblore items ect.
I do understand what the OP is clearly saying, if you don't have a duplicate of said item, it's going to be placed as the last item when put back in, then pressing the sort button doesn't help as it specifically orders every item by its Item ID in numerical order and in each tab
So at least having bank placeholders like Runescape has, which would help ease some of the players assortment of items that bother them, it wouldn't just help easy their nerves, but also their eyes, as they'll know 100% where the item they are look for is without having to do anything extra like type in the search bar
Good Luck & Have Fun
