Trying to understand how weapons should be used in this game
Unlike on Runescape, where scimitars > everything else until end game, I noticed each weapon is more suitable for different purposes. Based mostly on weapons' stats, I made a list with best cases for each type of weapon. Since I'm actually new to Melvor but a RS veteran, feedback will be appreciated.

Melee:
  • Daggers can be used to quickly farm materials from low level monsters (and presumably train defence).
  • Swords are best for training attack.
  • Scimitars are best for training strength.
  • Battleaxes and 2H swords are better suited for dungeons and boss fighting, rather than training.
  • Not sure about endgame weapons, but those who played long enough to equip them should be able to figure out by themselves.

Ranged: From fastest/weakest to strongest/slowest: knives, javelins, shortbows, longbows, crossbows. Prefer fast weapons for training and strong ones when "dungeoneering".

Magic: Just use the highest level weapon which best suits the spell you wanna cast.

Looking at this post from a few months ago: how does one determine which is better for what?

For melee weapons:
Check the Slash/Stab/Block bonus when you want to level up Attack, Strength or Defense.
Said bonus of the weapon affects its accuracy when using that combat style (for crafted weapons the usual winners are Sword, Scimitar and 2H Sword).
The Strength bonus affects the damage of the weapon.

The Scimitar is usually your best choice when using a shield if you don't care about leveling.
Except if things changed in a recent patch two-handed weapons are not that great until late game.

For ranged:
The Longbow is usually your most damaging option.
The Crossbow allows you use a shield but the bolts require gems to be crafted and you don't want to waste them. Use it only when you need both a shield and to use a ranged weapon.

For magic:
Attack bonus from your weapon increases accuracy. Damage is increased by Damage bonus.
The damage of Ancient Magicks can't be increased and accuracy and rune cost are the only thing that matter here.
In the case Slicing Winds, Gust and Incinerate if your accuracy rating is higher than 20k, the attack can't miss.

But things are fairly simple:
If you want to level a skill, go for the weapon that will give you the highest dps (you'll have to do the maths but the numbers are displayed in the combat tab).
Always make sure you have enough DR and health to idle. If needed equip a shield to raise your DR.

2hed sword is what i used for leveling defense, it has a massive defensive stat boost.

A good way to level any skill in combat is to equip the fastest weapon you can and equip sandstorm ring then go fight something with crap accuracy but decent HPs, like hill giants. You'll still need runes for magic or arrows for ranged, and make sure you have the skill you want to level up selected.

edit-nevermind I guess it's melee only now. Oh well... that sucks but it should still be good for melee and other combat skills that aren't ranged/magic.
