where to get good gloves early game? i got mithril gloves atm

I don't know what the "right" answer is here, but I just kept upgrading my own gloves using the best ones I could smith. I used the Dragon gloves for quite a while before I was able to eventually get the Paladin gloves from combat. That is what I am currently using still.

The Paladin Gloves are your best option for a long time.
The (U) Black D-hide Vambraces are a tiny bit better but they require 70 in Ranged combat and 79 in Crafting.

Other than the smithed Gloves I second Paladin Gloves (drops from lvl 142 Paladins in Holy Isles) and also Desert Wrappings which drop from lv80 Turkul Archers in Arid Plains (requires Desert Hat). For trash mobs or weak monsters in general Gloves of Silence are another great option which drops from lvl 86 Thief in Runic Ruins.

DR is 4%. Never underestimate DR. :)

Seconded - DR is vital as you go up. You will often find dropping defense and and adding DR is actually significantly better overall.
