Twin Exiles or Ancient Claw + (G) Dragon Shield?

Neither - in my opinion.

I like to just leave my game fighting while Im off doing other things so I put a high value on defense/HP/DR%. I only use my Twin Exiles if I am fighting easy stuff or if Im there to make sure the fight doesnt get hairy.

Most of the time I just use my Ancient Claw (I do have other big weapons but I like the Claw) and a fully all-the-way upgraded Ancient Shield. The difference between the G Dragon and the biggest version of the Ancient is very noticeable. (I know, I know, Im being coy about the 'biggest' Ancient Shield.)

If you can already get the Twin Exiles, you shouldnt have any trouble getting the bigger shield and it is 100% worth it.
DPS-wise there's barely any difference (Twin Exiles is usually first but by a really small margin).
Comboing Ancient Claw with the Sandstorm Ring (which isn't compatible with the Twin Exiles) should give a much higher kill rate and you'll keep the benefit of your shield.
Good point on the Sandstorm Ring - that thing is a serial killer.

Yeah ok, thanks for the advice. I haven't started volcanic dungeons yet because i'm playing HC and honestly I've been pretty scared haha. Haven't done research and assumed there was a massive difference between the two considering the difference in highest combat level.

Oh wow ok. Forgot this existed, will definitely grind for one. Thanks for that!

Hmm why is sandstorm ring not compatible with twin exiles?

It has to do with the way their specials overlap. Certain items have special abilities that are weighted higher in the combat system than others. In this case, the double hit of the Twins overrides the Sandstorm effect from the ring.

As long as the Twins are double hitting (which they always do) the ring wont trigger.

Pretty much what Oktober12th said: The Twins have 100% chance to trigger their special effect and their roll happens before the Sandstorm Ring. While you could technically equip the Sandstorm Ring alongside the Twins you'd never take advantage of the latter.
