I don't love the aiming but I also don't see how the mouse would greatly improve it.
Oh, you literally click heads. It is so fast. I can instantly aim on target with a mouse and pull the trigger. I very rarely miss or drop a shot. With a controller... I am a mess.
The only thing the controller does is vibrate for you and it does help with melee swinging, but the control scheme is almost useless.
Hold right trigger, press X (attack).
Hmm.
I'll have to give it a try. Haven't really struggled with the controller though. Fights typically look a bit like Gun Kata from Equilibrium.
Eeeeeee... sorry but no. Any game's better with a mouse. A mouse is simply a better more precise tool. That's a fact. Halo's better with a mouse and you'll rack way more kills with it than using a joystick. The controller is the more "comfortable" option for casuals that don't know how to use a mouse or can't be bothered to learn to use one. It's also the preferred way of playing from a sofa.
With that being said, the game was designed with controller in mind OP. That's why. It's functional with mouse and keyboard but the fact that you can't rebinds the keys obviously point out that they tacked on support for mouse and keyboard at the last minute. Still, with the mouse precision aiming it makes the in-game aim assist completely useless and gives you complete control over any firearms you'll use. No more wasted ammo.
One shot one kill baby !
A game in which you are aiming 360 degrees around a character with an overhead perspective is pretty much the only kind of game in which I'd not prefer a mouse for aiming.
Definitely prefer a mouse for first person shooters because the aiming accuracy is awful with a controller.
But when you just need to press the stick in the direction of the target it works pretty well.
My problem in this game is more just that objects tend to annoyingly block bullets even when they reasonably should not.
e.g. A wire fence.
Your aiming issues, I don't really... suffer from.... I don't have problem firing through see-through fences most of the time. No, most of my firing issue are from the no elevation mechanic. As soon as a target is slightly above or below you (walking over a box, downstairs, or on top of a rock, really anything.... it will automatically miss them. That's REALLY annoying. Even a slight slope is enough to disable hitboxes.
That's odd, because I've been up on a raised area and successfully shooting the enemies approaching down below, without major issues.
It could also be that I've tried a few times, figured that it didn't work and stop trying. Meaning that maybe it does work but it's wonky and I never bothered to figure it out lol XD. That's possible.
My main argument and an easy way to test what I'm talking about is in region 3. The sinking city. Stand on the pavement and try to aim at zombies in the water that are slightly below your level and it simply won't connect most of the time (meaning 75%+). It's ridiculous that we can't hit them reliably.
But that was once I switch off of controller, which I found almost unplayable to use, if I am being honest.
But if zombies are charging at me I can't move the mouse around fast enough to shoot them accurately and I prefer the analog stick.
