+1 to this. weight system isn't balanced well. You become overburdened way too quickly and the penalty isn't really noticeable. I honestly just play as if there is no weight limit and it doesn't negatively the experience enough to notice.

I've carried up to 400lbs. I would love for some storage on the vehicle. I often trade extra stuff away, but never light weight again. Don't worry about it. I find it funny though. You can lug around tons of equipment, but never more then one shot.

the weight system is uselss, just ignore it. they need to change it way to easy to become overcumbered, and way to little punishment that you can play around easy.

tbf add space in car. and increase the punishment for being overcumbered.

Talking about that, I noticed there is no way to discard items but to selling/use them...

Doesn't help the fact that weight rapidly accumulates from carrying other assorted ammo and materials/equipment. Or when you craft, some of the end-products made from weightless/light materials generate more weight!

And don't get me started on that 'additional weight limit' perk, that thing just adds a miserable +10 capacity in exchange for way too many skill points. Waste of skill points!

Agree with OP, the weight system in this game is botched and needs extensive revisions.

Just came to the forums see if anybody else was disapointed with the "overweight" system.... glad I'm not the only one to see this.

Adding a storage to the car would be a very good idea.

GreyFX, didn't know that T command, nice tip.

I'm gathering from reading some Steam Guides, that possibly, when you discard with T command that the items are dropped onto the map. If so, then there are two questions:

1) How long until despawn of the dropped item from the Tactical?

2) Will the item be there if you ever return there again?

For 1), my guess is that it remains until you leave that location's tactical playable map.

For 2) I'm presuming that the item is not there if you ever return to that location.

Which brings up the Third Question:

3) Is it possible to back track to an old location with the same Volunteer?

It seemed I could not, at least at the beginning, but it did allow me to highlight the initial zone, and I thought there was something in the Tutorial about dropping things off at the Starting Base called The End.

But then it also might just have been about going to the locations for storing things, which seem to be some colored crates, for storing things for other volunteers or to be returned to the Staring Base upon death, which is shown in one of the various Steam Guides.

Anyway, just wondering. Appreciate the T command tip. Going to check the game's website next.

Oh as for the Weight issue:

-- We do have to realize that bullets are actually rather heavy, especially for larger calibre ordinance. It isn't that one bullet weighs so much, but that packing them into usable magazines, having enough magazines to switch out, and all those bullets does add up.

-- Combat Effectiveness requires a certain maneuverability. Few soldiers even, other than dedicated heavy ordinance guys (say LMG teams) will carry on their person over 200 rounds, let alone 100, from what I understand. They might secret more, but my understanding is that if a soldier has more than 3-4 mags, plus one in the weapon, and 1-2 grenades, he is usually a specialist. These guys of course also have body armor often, and carry on them what is necessary to survive and camp, probably some spare socks and clothing, some food, etc. Who says you can even make it to the car, you normally want something on you, just in case it's a long wait.

-- It would be great to add more stuff to the car. But also consider that beyond the balancing concern for the game, the car is heavily armored, which requires thickness and is very heavy, and places a massive hardship on the ancient engine which has probably been refitted with makeshift parts multiple times. In addition, there is probably a lot of other stuff packed onto and inside the car, that is required, but is not something the game would waste time actually for during gameplay. Like spare parts, bedding, and some basic tools, etc.

-- Since the penalty for over-burdening oneself is SO MINOR, why then complain much about it.

-- If the WEIGHT PENALTY is such a pain, then suggest an alternative that would work better.

-- I can tell you that one problem with most games that allow almost unlimited CAR STORAGE FOR ITEMS, is that it either gets TOO EASY, or CRAFTING BECOMES A COMPLEX CHORE IN ORDER TO BE A MASSIVE INGREDIENT SINK TO MAKE UP FOR CAR STORAGE EASE. An example of some of this, constantly being rebalanced, is 7 Days to Die. That's a fun game, but it gets also ridiculous with options that take away from the immediate tension, that this game is probably trying to consistently have going.

-- You don't really have the time to store everything unless you are happy with death via virus anyway and little to show for it. That is likely why car storage is being nixed. Besides that it can be presumed to be built in already via a combo of your backpack's limit, the complained about penalty of overweighing oneself, and the various stashes in certain locations for items once you get there.

-- Any place you store must be secured, easy to reach, a place the Recovery Crew knows about, and not smell so much that Zombies take over the area. At least that is one way to imagine the limitation, as well as the game's excuse for balance.

Just thinking out loud, and this is just a counterpoint. I actually think the complaints have some merit, it just takes time to keep the game as intended and come up with a solution that works inside that context.

I think it generally works, you just kinda figure it out. There's never really much reason to be more than lightly encumbered, since there's only so much you can sell, and whatever you don't use in your run doesn't carry over so there's no point in OCD hoarding. No, you're really not going to realistically use 10 medkits or 20 clean water, so ditch half if they're tipping you over. Just keep the best gun in the couple of calibers you've managed to find the most of that run and ditch excess. Don't overdo it crafting a ton of bloodlusters, etc. before you need them, even if it means you might have to rely on other weapons for a stretch before you find another workbench. It generally makes more rather than less interesting choices to need to watch weight, and again losing everything after every run means there's no reason to get overly attached to anything weighing you down anyway.

They already changed the encumbrance system between the start of this thread and your post. Upgradeable backpack to hold more stuff, and hidden stashes near the beginning of each of the later zones. There's not going to be car storage.

(personally, I've never had a problem with it. I've played within the weight limit the whole time. It's much easier now than it was.)
