[Question] Any plans for multiplayer?
Surely this game won't be a massive multiplayer game, but would be nice for like a 2-4 player co-op. Is there a planned Co-op for the game or no?

We tested co-op play in a very very early prototype but ultimately felt that it didn't fit the direction of the type of game we're making.

Its a rogue like so... i doubt it will happen but. A two player coop wouldnt be too bad.

Yeah, at least a two person coop will hugely improve the gameplay.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Mr Developer, grettings from another Developer whos making a Card game in process.

Im talking to you from my perspective and i wish you think in this as a suggestion for making your game, i dont know if better, but with more options to play for gamers. The first time i saw this game was in armor games like 8 years ago and that game is way older, i saw a monstruous potential and it was a really good game, like 20M+ Players playing and buying things, meant that the game was good and well designed, i played it like for 6 months, because the game sadly was Pay to win and attacking bases (Wich is the funniest thing in my opinion) was impossible at a certain point, but, the way you have to maintain your base (Wich can be improved to be even more funny and challenging), to build a team for specific porpuses, to earn weapons, food, water, etc was also very fun and i repeat myself, it can be improved (like everything trougth time). Imagine improving everything to be more challenging (not hard, hard can be an option for future lvls), and at the same time, you can party with people and split the tasks (such as scavenging, killler, protector, medic, etc) and of course, it will be co-op (wich means two players, maybe more if there is a "raid place"), so the mobs will be harder to manage, adding rocks or stuck doors (things to increase the dificulty of the search of items or the goal wich both players needs to solve with skill), this game was good in single player, but trust me on this, making the game Co-Op will be even better, please think about this, make it optional at least, and if the idea hits, make it even a thing in online.

I have to be honest, it looks like a good game, but it's the kind of game I will only enjoy as a co-op, so I'll wait to see if that ever get's implemented instead

It's good you found your direction early. It makes it easy to ignore these types of threads and focus on your core gameplay loop.

That being said, I can't really picture playing this solo. It may not be fair to compare the two, but after Housemarque created Dead Nation and Alien Nation, you just can't release a game with this perspective and not add a local co-op shared screen option. 👍

So those games play like Diablo? 😋

Aftermath might not the type of game you think it is. It's a rogue lite. It shares way more in common with Dead Cells, Hades and other games of that genre than generic shooters.

Got about a 1000 hours in Dead Cells and Hades. They are fantastic and they too would be fun to play cooperatively. Not sure who decided that Rogues == Single player.

Awesome, you should enjoy the game then.

Multiplayer in games with permadeath is tricky from a design standpoint. Making the second, third or fourth participants influence on the game meaningful and permanent is difficult. I personally haven't seen it done yet, we're going with single player because that is what works for how our mechanics work.

Fun for sure in concept, extremely difficult to make fun in execution I think, otherwise we'd have seen it already.

The game really needs multiplayer. If the dev team sees it differently, you're unfortunately on the wrong track and spoil a great game, which it could become in multiplayer. An example of how such a multiplayer could look, you can see quite well in the Game Project Zomboid.

So How many of you people demanding Multiplayer are ok jsut sitting on your ass waiting for your partner to die if you die an hour before them on a good run? Because this ain't a game where respawning is going to be a thing. So think about how willing you are to sit there waiting for your friend to die if you're gonna keep demanding multiplayer, given the game loop there is huge amounts of possible time you could just be spectating your more fortunate friend if you bite it. Not to mention how many friendships might take a beating when your friend takes the only antiviral and you're one mutation from death.

I don't know about multiplayer but a COOP with limited slots should do the work. I hope it will be added.

This game has no future or replay value without co-op/multiplayer. Thats a fact and you know it too. This game will be forgotten in couple of years and will be in Steam sale for 5€/5$.

Free idea: When the second player dies/turns to zombie, you can knock him/her out, tie up, carry in to the car and give vaccine (when you get them) to restore health bar(s). No need for respawn etc. And there, with couple tweaks, co-op is added. No need for major "direction changes" in the game and in its lore, mechanics etc. Cant see how the best reason NOT to add co-op is the reason that previous system will somehow ruin all that.

Lets be straight with this: this game has NONE major or even minor reasons why co-op isnt an option. I know many singleplayer games that would never work co-op but this isnt one.

The fact you are stating that co-op "didnt fit the direction" is a poor and plain stupid excuse and let me tell you why: There is no depth in any of the characters (or the story itself) or that the player even cares what happens to any of them. With that said, what is the content the game has to offer? Singleplayer that has none of the following: story, characters, depth. Why on earth someone would like to play that after the first playthrough? The game mechanics or controls being the only reasons to play singleplayer? Come on, its so common idea for a game (zombies) so you gotta do better than that to make a singleplayer game intresting or even to be remembered...

I think the real reason is that you just dont want to use the extra work/money to get the co-op added. Shame that another potentially good game gets that same fate like many others.

Like there isnt millions of games where that can happen? Ever heard Among Us? The fact that you can ruin a friendship with decisions in games is the stupidest reason I have ever heard why NOT to add multiplayer. Geez, multiplayer games are FULL of decisions... "Buuhuu, that Mercy didnt heal me in Overwatch, he healed our tank in that tight spot and time, this game doesnt need a multiplayer!". Or in Diablo III and legendary drops, oh man, you must be so great company in those situations where you watch your friend getting better gear than you. I dont even have words to describe how dumb those reasons "not to co-op this game" you came up with really are.

Overall, I really, REALLY hope this game gets a co-op because in the end, who wouldnt like to shoot, survive and run off hordes of zombies with your best mates?

@OhYouTouchMy

You are so right with what you are saying! I was really looking forward to the game but what I have seen so far is uninteresting without multiplayer. The way the game is set up now, how you choose your char, what abilities he has, his life will go down more and more with the virus. So why no multiplayer? There is no game mechanic reason! Probably there is no money for such an idea. My money for the game then there is also not. Wish but still good luck and hope that there will be an expansion or in a new version. Love greetings

Hi! Put multilpayer for 2 player please, in any case put difficulty options of easy medium and hard, altering the difficulty of the zombies and having cooperative missions would be the best for the game
