How common is grafting?
Am I the only one to find the whole grafting thing a bit gimmicky and not something to overuse in gameplay design?

It's a cool feature of the game engine (same as animating objects / walls etc)  but IMHO would be kind of weird to have happening all the time and to all the characters.

Hopefully it is planned to be limited to a class -- bodygrafter as opposed to mindcrafter. Or perhaps as an reward of a long quest chain that tries to find the secrets of an ancient cult. Perhaps even so that you'd have to find their sacred texts to be able to advance in grafting skill tree. Maybe not even available in all games but something that might come up and allow you to start the quest chain and offer an alternative way to advance in the game.

One thing that would seem perhaps a bit less invasive than actually modifying the player character would be to be able to create chimaera type pets for yourself. In the end being able to create something like Skaven Hell-Pit Abomination[warhammerfantasy.fandom.com] and let it loose against your opponents could be extremely cool. :)

One thing also came to mind from the Skaven... it might be that using Grafting would require some kind of mutating component (think Warpstone in Warhammer) that would allow the body parts to attach properly. This starts to sound more and more like what the followers of Chaos might spend their hard earner corruption points on. Instead of random corruptions they might be able to channel corrupted energies to a more useful purpose.

Also have to say that I've been enjoying the original ADOM from it's early stages and really looking forward to what Ultimate ADOM has to offer. :D

No.
Shut up.
I love grafting. Gimme more.

I agree with Galigula. Grafting is currently too affordable. This devalues him. A chain of quests would be good.

Yeah it's gimmicky but at the same time it fits in with the chaos theme of the game.

For the more role-playing inclined, it seems to be hard to consider a holy crusader, paladin-type character who wants to bring Order to all this Chaos with grafted head or arms... It's just terrible. Problem is if Galahad, your paladin character decides not to use grafting, he might be weakening himself too much. So yea, that's an issue.

But if you don't want to use it, then don't use it?

Sure, but as I wrote it, not using grafting might gimp your character too much compared to a grafter. Unless the company balances it enough with powers/abilities/buffs somehow to those who remain "pure", much like a paladin-like character should usually be.

Grafting removes a toughness point every time and there are size restrictions/max limits on what/how many things you can graft onto yourself. If you don't wanna graft, just don't. You're not gonna be weaker cause you're putting your skill points elsewhere. Grafting doesn't give you anything per skill point other than the ability to put another thing on yourself so each limb is essentially just a skill off the tree at the end of the day.

Following up here cause I happened to notice and don't wanna leave misinformation, the tooltip says it takes away 1 toughness for every graft but I was only getting increased hunger rate. Not sure which one is the intended effect.

There is a graft other spell atm. I haven't experimented with it too much, tho. Not sure if you can tame cats with raw meat yet?

I, for one, love the grafting feature. It's super cool. And I've had plenty of characters that are powerful in other ways that didn't rely upon grafting.
dont remove things from the game that players other than yourself like to mess with. short your own experience, don't meddle with mine please.

I agree and would never like if such a feature (grafting) were removed. I have played RPG's for 30+ years and MORE options is usually if not always better than less options (customization, build diversity etc.). Though I would like to see a reasonably balanced way to go the non-grafting, "pure" route so the more hardcore role-players could play their crusader, holy warrior/priest/mage character.

Grafting is great, but maybe some balancing is needed. Two more hands for melee character actually double the damage per turn. The price for that is rather low -- several skill points and increased hunger

RPing, by its very nature, is all about self-enforced limitations. You shouldn't need an update for this.

Just adding my thoughts since this game is still in early development.

The idea of grafting is alright, but I do agree that having it be easy to access kinda kills the mood of the game for me.

Having some limitations on who can use it or some lore reason why other people aren't just throwing limbs on themselves would be nice.
