Literally not the same thing. I'm the first person to tell you about the usefulness of RPT, but splitscreen co-op is a feature the original 2 had on PS2. Where's the upgrade?
No, it's not the same thing, but that is how you can play with your friends online. They could have omitted this feature, but they chose to put it in to make it possible at least

Edited: Also you couldn't have "omitted" from the game if it was there in the 1st place. Even if they were too lazy to added the feature, the community would probably added it in since how great it was back then.
