Missed a delivery deadline?

I fear that I'm not going to make my delivery in the timescale.
Has anyone else done this?
What are the consequences?

I've found out the hard way.
You fail the mission, and the cargo is removed from your boat

Don't know if it's a bug or what but I had several missions to make all on the same run to different ports and I was making a small delivery along the way for my medium run which I had to make in two trips when suddenly time ran out on my medium run and instead of loosing just that I lost everything! The smaller runs still had 8 or so hours to complete so I don't have a clue why those expired as well. Just saying this because I no longer make multiple runs all at once unless I know I can reach the dead line on all of them.
