There is fishing in the game.
Take a loan at the Office, by Flippy at the Shipyard, and use a skillpoint to fish with longlines.
Rig the boat for longlines in the Shipyard and by a hook in the Shop.
By longline(s) and bait at the Fishery.
Bait the longlines, and You are ready.
It,s at least 6 or 7 Fish habitats on the map.
Turn on the Sonar when You are in a Fish Habitat to find the different fish species.
Read the help meny in the game.

Ok. By a Jigger at the Shop, use one skillpoint for Jigging, I think. Then row outside the harbour, and start fishing with the Jigger.

I tried that.. It wont let me drop it unless there's a Fish habitat. There is none on my map

that's odd ..

as @frosen said - please make sure:
- you acquired "jigger" skill
- and that jigger is in your "personal inventory"
(and not in "boat" or "company" inventory)

even with Rowmeo - it is quick trip - just outside of Rost harbor - if you row in between Kvedsbeita and Lingvaer - you have to be in fish habitat ..
(can't really remember now the details - if it is not shown in your map
- still go out there - and you will get message "entering fish habitat" on your screen )
(I didn't noticed any update since last time I played this ..)

if it really doesn't show - you could try verifying files or reinstall the game ..

I did it just out of curiosity at the very beginning of 0.7.5 update
- but there are more ways to start career..

- one better way is to do few deliveries of that "one special cargo mission"
- you will get about 20.000 NOK for very short trip - save - exit - load again
- and that mission will be available again - rinse and repeat

- or take loans - buy Flippy - and you will progress in no time ..
(trick is - at start - you will have only one skill point
- and it is better to use it for "long line fishing" - you will quicker get more XP and skill points that way..
- look under "guides" - @baobobafet wrote guide "for start")

or wait just a bit more - until 0.8.x came out - hopefully - there will be tutorials again ..

Ships At Sea meant not fishing simulator - it meant boat simulator .

yes - but current, specific update - 0.7.5 - IMO - was meant to test specific improvements in fishing part mostly, along with cranes, autopilot and big chunk of multiplayer etc.
- we are all waiting for bigger ships - but some things need to be done 1st - like game save for example .. ;-)

well @INTRUDER - you were RIGHT !

even with acquired jigger and skill - no fish habitat this time - strange ..

then a little voice inside said "challenge" - and I tried completely new career save - thinking that it was maybe available just at the start - but NO - even in this case - no habitat ..

then tried deliver few cargo missions - to reach level 2 - successful - but still no habitat ..
(and I could not "use" jigger - dimmed ..)

then made same mistake as you- - and took that 2 box mission on Rowmeo - short - didn't completed - transfered boxes in 2 trips to dock in Rost - but instead "deliver cargo" - got message "pick up" on that pallet - no deliver point ..

then went buying Roster - took another mission - thinking that this will "reset" things - nope - new mission was fine - but when tried to activate old mission (with 2 boxes) - again - got "pick up" message ..

BUT THIS IS NOT ALL ! if you dial in next 2 minutes .. ;-)

then tried something totaly "out of the box" - and successfuly used jigger ON DOCK in Rost - go figure ..
(you can see pictures that I shared on my account ..)

anyone - how can I share pic here ? old fart, not versed in this ..

Edit: I can recall once loading the game to start a new character (not sure if it was 7.5) But I do remember seeing seagulls over Rost harbor. It felt very lively in Rost for some reason then I looked at the map and it depicted a fish habitat in the harbor.
I ended up doing a restart and the Rost fish habit was gone - replaced with the normal fish habitats everywhere else.

Just tried jigging off the docks - good find :) Tried the rowboat for jigging once before without success - tried again this time and the option was still grayed out. IMO it should be added as a feature.

good thing I didn't tried to persuade @INTRUDER more
- started to question my own health ..

since I am always "preaching" to READ - went in "events" section - and my thinking now
- we all tried this in very initial release of 0.7.5
- since then - there were few hotfixes and updates
- probably change came somewhere in between
(there WAS fish habitat in initial 0.7.5 - but NOT now ..)
but we didn't noticed - since we were "full speed ahead" ..

regarding "jigging" from shore
- went to Kvedsbeita - message "seek deeper water" and "something in a way" (or similar)
- went to Lingvaer - successful ..

Funny ... just did some more jigging @ Rost dock, made over 4k. (They gotta fix that jig animation - like the line breaks in half in the minigame..pff)
On the missing fish habitats, is this only occurring when starting a new game?
Edit: Didn't try yet but if that IS the case the only work-a-round might be making a public save available. (at least until v8.0) If a patch can fix it great, otherwise maybe 'someone' has an early save with the habitats active they can share.

Created new game (It seems to keep all my mileage and rank) No skill points.
This save might not be fair representation of what a new player will deal with.
Took the Skippy out to where the fish habitat normally starts and got the message 'entering fish habitat'. Didn't try any fishing yet but I think that's still more than not finding one?
Edit: Update longlining in the fish habitat and have already caught fish.
Also on the deliveries with rowboat, had a mission to deliver one box - when I got to destination instead of drop box here, I got a pick up 'other' box at Rost arrow instead.
I though okay, maybe missed something, so put the box down on the destination pallet anyways and it gave me a mission completed.

interesting ..

went to my normal save - and took Rowmeo, Roster and Flippy ..

in neither case got the "enter FH" message, but
- with Rowmeo - it won't let me use of jigger ..
- with both Roster and Flippy - I can use jigger even in harbor ..

@INTRUDER - don't know what to say ..
- if you want to try jigger
- by doing few "special cargo missions" (for 20.000 NOK)
you can easily buy Roster - even without loans ..
- and try - it is fun (for a while ..)
