Is there autopilot...

the help says there is but i can not find how to use it the help directions dont work or am i just missing something

Not in the traditional sense of the word, no. There isn't a guiding system that takes you to your destination. However, you can throttle up and let the boat go on its own while you do other things.

Get into the captain's chair (Aka control the boat.) push W or if you want to do it in a simulated way, open your first person view and look at the throttle (On the roster it is directly right of the wheel.) Move the throttle up until you find your speed of choice. Enjoy the riide.

No autopilot yet, but you can set waypoints and try to follow them.
I would not as was suggested set full throttle and go AFK. You will most likely crash and damage your boat ;)

I also can't get the boat to even remotely follow the path I set. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong. I mean, the engine will keep driving the boat forward, but it will change direction depending on waves and not exactly have what I call a "steady path" :P

I was having the same problem until I upgraded the engine and propeller. Seems having that extra power lets you cut through the waves much cleaner. Still going to have to correct a bit but not nearly as bad.

There is autopilot ingame on 1st person view but its disabled atm

Unless you’re headed to a fishing spot. I’m 20 real life minutes away from the nearest landmass, pointed towards a habitat, chugging along at 12 kts. I stepped out for a smoke. I doubt I’ll be any further away from the spot when I go back in, and hopefully I’ll be much closer lol

*edited to say, the risk was much higher if I didn’t step away, because I was about to fall asleep in my chair, and then god only knows where I would have ended up.

Sonofa… So I finally got to the cod… Took about 30 minutes irl at 12kts. Ran out my long line, and then crashed. I just… I get that it’s EA, and instability is to be expected, but bring the fish in closer until a few stability fixes are implemented ffs. I still haven’t got to try the fishing beyond using the jigger. If the devs want us to test things, let us test them easier. I’m not spending another 30+ minutes to drive all the way out to try again. Time to park the fishing boat and go back to hauling small cargos.

The autopilot is located in the wheelhouse and will be completed soon so you can than plot your road. ;-)
