Didn't expect this game to be so yuri
Is this gonna be a long-running thing with Compile Heart now?

First Mary Skelter 2 amped up the gay to 11, and now Death End 2?

All the sequels practically ditch the male cast.

I mean, story's still intriguing and I do plan on getting my money's worth, but the romance in the first game coupled with the duo of male and femc was better for me personally. These games need to come with tags or something so I know when to ignore them XD

It takes place in a all-girls school, what did you expect was going to happen romantically? There ARE no guys around for them to hook up with, so all they got is each other. Though Rottie, is kinda gushing a wee bit TOO hard for Mai way too early imo. Also who the hell names their daughter "Rotten" like seriously, was this a translation mistake somehow? or was that legit her name?

It's not great like it would be in a visual novel with it as the focus, but it's definitely better than here, where there's no buildup and it's so in your face.

First game you know there's respect between Shiina and Arata, that respects grows into concern and that camraderie buds into their ending.

Are we talking about Yuri vs Het, or are we talking about the actual quality of the romance itself?

Because if we're talking about the first one, then, please there are tons upon tons of Het game out there. I, personally, only bought this game because it has Yuri. As you can see, I don't buy the first game.

If we're talking about the latter, IMO, Compile Heart was never that good at the romance aspect.

Just IMO of course, not looking to start a war.

Where'd you get the info that it was a yuri game? I was blindsided by it.

I've got nothing against yuri btw. I just have a preference, and would preferably play games that fit my preference is all. I've bought the game and sunk in the hours already though.

Fairy Fencer F actually had good romance imo. The game's comedy puts people off to it, but once the story starts picking up and you choose a route it's above average in how it handles it.

Same with Dragon Star Varnir.

That's her actual name. It's not a translation mistake.

oh please, it's filled with crap generic anime trope like everytimes someone mentions Arata Shina just decline that she loves him and that happens EVERYTIMES repeatedly even on DE:R2 it's so annoying even Mai thinks it's weird for someone her age acting like that...most funniest thing is Shina didn't even know what kind of person Arata is except acknowledge him as a colleague and yet she falls in love with him after 3 days. if you call this great romance i don't know what to say, you can find this kind of great romance out there on 9 out of 10 nowadays shounen anime

i'm not saying the second is better. But i can give you an example of good RPG romance : tales of xillia and the Lunar series, that's how a good romance RPG should be, not this neither the first game.

um....then you dont turn gay and wait for a man to walk into your life?.....idk. i mean, a school isnt gonna turn someone gay outright. you're either looking for p u s s or you're not. a better question is why does every anime these days have "re: something" in the name, and what does it even mean? it looks to me like how all rappers have the name "lil" in front of something.

How are you surprised to find out a Compile Heart game has a near nonexistent male cast? Yes the first game had some men but if anything the past few CH games have been an anomaly. If you look back in Compile Heart's history at games like Neptunia etc men are extremely scarce in the cast, and there was always some yuri hinted at.

Furthermore I fail to see how having a heterosexual romance makes a difference unless you plan to self insert, which is impossible when the main character is defined like Arata was.

Same with Dragon Star Varnir.

I read it from a blog that I follow. You probably don't know it though, consider your preference.

I sort of understand, if I bought a game expecting Yuri or subtext at least but then got Het thrown into my face, I probably will be very upset (enough to remove the game from my library altogether even)

Didn't play it, just saw my bro play it and...pardon me for being frank, I didn't think it was good. again, just IMO.

Same as above.

Oh well, let's just respect each other's preference and leave it as that. Only thing I can say is you probably should look around a bit first before buying a game (I only bought it 3 days after release, after I have been introduced by the mentioned blog)
this got some subtext moment but not yuri at all, not even the neptunia series is yuri.

Omega Quintent
Dark Rose Valkyrie
Fairy Fencer F
Dragon Star Varnir
Death End Re;Quest 1

Compile heart does variable gendered cast pretty often.

I'm not planning on self-inserting. Why is it that if I have a preference for romantic development it's seen that I'm trying to self-insert or something?

Did I ever say it was great?

Obviously I've seen better. I've read visual novels like Majikoi and Sabbat of the Witch. I know when it could be better, but calling it bad is wrong.

In the first game, Shina just disappears, and this is what prompts Arata to look for her. When they come into contact again, Shina's isolated, and Arata's there for her when it comes to helping her escape the game.

What I liked about the first game was that feeling of co-dependence where Shiina relied on Arata, and Arata felt the absence of Shiina in his life so bad he wanted to help her.
Fate_Rasodra Aug 22, 2020 @ 10:31am
It bugs me because there's so much less of everything else that made me love the first game, so all I have left to look at is the yuri bait.

Arata and Shina had personalities beyond caring for each other, and there was a lot more mystery and intrigue keeping things interesting.

As of Chapter 4, I've seen 1 Death End, 1 new lead that might help Mai find what she's looking for, and approximately 874 instances of a girl saying another girl is cute. If you want yuri games, fine. But this isn't what I'm here for. I want more creepypasta edgelord drama, or at least a second personality trait for Rottie.
