Why isn't Qui deformed like most Nosferatu?
Is that explained in the novel?

Just curious what the answer is.

He belongs to one of the Nosferatu bloodlines.
He has a bleeding wound, which he covers with long hair or a scarf. This wound is his curse.
This is mentioned several times in the novel.

It's explained in a lot of detail in his romance path. I'll come back and detail it when I can if no one gets to it before me.
Fleshcrafting.

Fleshcrafting.
I vaguely remember that the Curse would always reassert itself over night and it going back to how it was, so this is kinda curious to me. But perhaps they changed that in new editions.
If you take the Qui romance track the whole way, you find out that an elder Tzimisce experimented on dozens of Nosferatu to try to discover a way to change them, destroying almost all of them in the process. He tortured Qui for months, and when he was killed after the Tremere arrived at his compound, they found only Qui still surviving, all his deformities somehow pulled back into a pulsating always-hot scar down his neck and back. The Tremere studied it, but no one was ever able to reproduce the effect. On the choice of games forums, the author said that all the writing was edited by actual World of Darkness editors, so it apparently fits in the canon.

Lorewise it was impossible to surpress nosferatu curse even with vicissitude. They usually used obfuscate power "mask of the thousand faces" for social interactions. But hey, whatever floats author boat.
I think the implication it was a new combination of vicissitude and some kind of sorcery (whether thaumaturgy or koldonic)...heck going by V5 lore it could've even been some weird application of Oblivion since he described it as not just impacting his body but his very soul.
Lorewise it was deemed impossible in at least older versions of the RPG to "fix" a nosferatus deformity by vicissitude fleshcrafting. This is because nosferatus looks are a curse, and you dont "fix" curses just like that. This is a relatively big departure from the lore if true..

The curse wasn't removed or 'fixed.' It was altered and changed into a constantly painful, burning scar running up and down his body. He still repels kine and they still feel uneasy in his presence as with other Nosferatu.

The text itself makes it very clear that nobody, not even Qui, knows exactly how this was done. There are suggestions of vicissitude mixed with other disciplines or supernatural means, but it's a mystery. The World of Darkness, like any other RPG world/system, is filled with rules that always give way for specific exceptions.

The different books over the last 30 years have always made it clear that when it comes to the supernatural world, when the ancients start dabbling in powerful forces, there is no such thing as impossible. There are artefacts and spells that bend reality on a consistent basis.

Elders have spent centuries searching for a way to end the Nosferatu curse. Who's to say that they didn't stumble on a half-measure and used a young fledgling as a test subject? The Sabbat enclave in question was burned out by the New England Camarilla, which could mean secrets are buried there. There are far stranger things going on in the current timeline than that. Either way, all of these stories have been vetted word-for-word by official WOD staff. None of the authors got final say, they've been pretty clear on that in interviews and on the Choice of Games forums.
I like how each of these Choice of Games titles pushes the boundaries of what is possible in normal WoD games in their own way, it is really quite a breath of fresh air and reminds us players that in the end we make the stories and as long as we have fun as a group it is all cool.

Night Road: A player character who can level up/power up like a JRPG character to the point of being able to learn multiple powerful abilities and lay the smack down on vampires much older through direct physical combat in a very "cut scene/QTE" fashion.
Also Julian's plan pushes the boundaries on what is possible through manipulation of public perception and brainiwashing

Out for blood: Monroe can somehow become human again if her sire is killed because she is a thinblood.

Parliament of Knives: Corliss, Lucca, the player character and Grace can actually be Nosferatu and the story still somehow makes sense through some mental gymnastics.

Also Vivian somehow is an Asian looking woman despite her description or the story never mentioning why this is (almost like they put the wrong picture there).

And of course, Qui is the only Nosferatu to have apparently escaped the clan curse
